Nykola's post in the controversial topics thread made me say back that train UP. They are REQUIRING the vaccination!?!?!? (Nykola - I know you said you weren't sure about that being true....so I had to double check).
Personally, I'm all for it and my skiddo got it. But I am NOT for requiring it!
So - I searched and what I found is that the state is required to give information on it: https://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=1802&year=2007
Re: Requiring Guardasil Vaccination
I know that in the Kent School District it is required at a certain grade (I THINK it's 7th). Not sure about anywhere else or other districts. I've had at least two OBs/Gynos tell me they aren't comfortable with the vaccine or the way it's being marketed. They think it's misleading. I have personal reasons why I'm not for it for my own kids, but you're right, to make it required is in my opinion ridiculous. BUT, my friend wrote in that she was not getting her daughter vaccinated for personal reasons and they are fine with that provided you have a good reason why.
I had no idea but there are a number of cultures, religions, etc. that just don't jibe with many medical procedures, so the state gives loopholes for that. I remember a girl in my class who was a scientologist and she had to get exemptions for EVERYTHING.
Its not manditory in wa but is in tx. I have 2 views on this 1)I don't like the gov telling me what I have to do. 2) there is no reason in the world not to protect your daughter against this, its not just your daughter its everyone's daughter!
I am thankful I don't have to make a decision on this for a few years. I'd like more testing done before I decide.
And FYI - Rick Perry (gov. of Texas) has personal ties to Merck who makes Gardisil and took money from the company during his reelection which makes me even more wary of it. It's pushed SO hard - is it really for health reasons or just $?
My Blog
Seriously...dig a little deeper on this one. You'd be AMAZED what you find in regards to pharmaceutical companies and their ties to gov't/certain government officials. Aye.
Here is a downside...

the last one says there are no links, but 32 deaths. Those girls were someones daughter. And the cdc is still closely monitering the vaccine.
I am relieved that there will be plenty of time for more research and development on the vaccine before I need to decide for Ella.
Well, thanks for posting this - I was not aware. However, deaths can occur with any vaccine. We still get our children vaccinated, b/c the likelihood of that happening is extremely small, usually so much so that death by the disease itself is more common. But I'm also relieved that we have some time to see how the vaccine does before we have to think about getting it. ?
And ditto the PP about boys having to get it, too. I don't know if Guardasil has been tested for boys, but if it proves to be safe for them and prevent them from contracting HPV, they should have to get it, too.?
This. There's some preliminary data that HPV may cause throat cancer in men. If there's compelling evidence in 15 years, I'd get Connor vaccinated.
I like the way Washington "requires" vaccines. They are pretty respectful if it goes against your religious, cultural or just plain personal beliefs.
If I had to make the decision today there is no way in hell I would get that shot for my daughter. (Thanks for posting those links Pink) If the government ever starts forcing people to vaccinate I'm moving. Pharmaceutical companies have money in places none of us could ever dream of. Its disgusting. I'm ALL for vaccinating and preventing diseases, but no one will EVER tell me what to put into my child body. No way, no how.
Also, I thought I heard awhile back that they pulled it off the market??
