I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jen, and DH and I have made our decision today to start the adoption process. I'll be reading up on all the previous posts before I start asking any questions, but I just wanted to say hi. I went to a new RE today for a second opinion on my diagnosis, and unfortunately with my high FSH levels, my age (35), depleting ovarian reserve, old eggs (damn you old eggs) and my not-so-strong uterus after a myomectomy to remove three fibroids, it was explained that adoption would be our best alternative.
DH is adopted, and it is something we had considered all along. If we were able to conceive our first child without IF treatments (way, way back when...), we were always going to adopt a second child. Now that we are unable to conceive on our own, our plan is to adopt. I'm sure I'll have questions as we navigate this process, but I promise I'll read ahead, and will ask questions later.
If anyone has any recommended reading in the meantime, please let me know. Thanks everyone, it's good to finally be here! ?
Re: Introducing myself...
I am sorry about your IF. Welcome to the board.
I would pick up a copy of Adoption for Dummies. It is a good starting point to give you the basics and what types of adoptions are out there.
Everyone here is super nice. Feel free to ask anything.
Amie
Congratulations on starting your adoption journey! YAY.
Can't wait to hear more from you and watch your journey!
Welcome, Jen!
This is a very friendly board. We've tried to pick up activity by having HTT- Hot Topic Tuesdays and GTKYF- Get to know you Fridays.
Stick around....it's a great group of women and a couple of men now and again.
congrats on moving forward with your plans.
I feel your pain, i have the same diagnosis as you do. It really stinks!
This is a great board and a wealth of information and support, so welcome!
Welcome, Jen!
I'm sorry to hear about your IF. There's quite a few of us here that have similar experiences. Its a great group of people with a wealth of knowledge and information. Make yourself at home!
Thank you all so much, I feel so welcome already and it's only been a couple hours! I think I've found my new home! I'm going to be talking to DH's parents this weekend, FIL is a retired Methodist minister who knows everyone in Philadelphia, and we just found a Methodist based adoption agency in the area. I'm hopeful they can put their feelers out to see if anyone can help us out.?
jacksjerseygirl - my DH's name is Grant, it's such a unique name, we love seeing when others have the name. (but secretly hope it doesn't become toooo popular!) LOL!
I'll be back tomorrow for GTKY Friday! YAY! And HTT sounds like fun too. Thanks for such a warm welcome!?
Welcome. I saw you on TTTC today, and I was hoping you'd come here. But I didn't want to push you
Feel free to read the posts, ask questions, and get involved. It's a great group of women.
I would recommend Adoption for Dummies and Adopting After Infertility. I have an old (19920

I would recommend Adoption for Dummies and Adopting After Infertility. I have an old (1992) copy of the second book, and she has a semi-adversarial attitude towards SWs, but some of the upfront decision-making exercises are good, and I learned a lot from the book in general.
I hope to see you here often.
Welcome Jen! The ladies on this board are angels, everyone is so helpful and all are very sweet. You will love it here.
I like Adoption for dummies and The idiot's guide to adoption. Both were so helpful. Do you know if you are thinking domestic or international?
Hi Jen,
Welcome to the board! I also have the same dx and I feel your pain. All the others gave good recs for reading, but I will add my 2 cents also...I read The Ultimate Insider's Guide to Adoption and am now working with the author, Elizabeth Swire Falker. She's awesome. Also, I wanted to say that I know the area where you live....I used to work in Bryn Mawr and spent lots of time in Ardmore, Narberth, and lots of other places along the Main Line...in fact, I waitressed at the old General Wayne Inn in another life!!! I miss my old Philly days
