Crib/bed...What will you do?

DD will be 19 months when DC#2 arrives in Dec. The plan is for her to go to either a toddler bed or regular bed and the crib she is currently in will be moved to DC#2' room. We're still trying to figure this out, but so far that's the plan.

My question is: Will you be buying a 2nd crib or will DC#1 go into a toddler bed/regular bed?

Re: Crib/bed...What will you do?

  • We have been trying to transition DS into a Toddler bed for a few months now but he has picked up on co-sleeping instead.

But at least the crib is available!

  • We wil lbe buying a new crib. DS#2 will be 20 months when DC#3 arrives. He will definietly not be ready for a toddler bed by then. Plus, his crib converts to a toddler bed and that is what we will use, so we would need a new crib regardless.

  • we are going to get a new crib.  There is a pretty cute blog that had an entry on the pros and cons of the new crib.  The comments are helpful as well.

  • We're keeping DD1 in her crib.  I coslept with her until she was 9 month and am hoping to do the same with baby #2.  In a perfect world #1 will be ready for a big girl bed at the same time #2 is ready for the crib.  Worst case scenario, we'll buy a cheap crib at Target or wherever.
  • I took Jacob out the crib and put him in a twin bed in February.  It didn't make sense to me to get him a toddler bed since he'll be growing out of that eventually.  Lourdes will go in the crib soon; she's in the bassinet for now.
  • We bought a new crib for #2... Zavier will only be 16 months, and I am sooo not ready to lose control of him not being in a crib!  Plus now I dont need to worry about any crib jealousy issues.
  • My plan is to keep new baby in a PNP in our bedroom until 3-4 months. This is what we did with DS. By that time, DS will be over 2 years old. When new baby is ready to transition, we will purchase a toddler bed for DS and put new baby in the crib that DS currently uses. I figure a toddler bed is way cheaper than a crib. That's the plan...we'll see how it works out.

  • Robbie's bed converts in to a toddler bed and he's going to keep his crib for now. I don't think that he'll be able to understand the boundaries of a toddler bed until at the very least 2 so we'll be getting a new crib for this baby. The baby will be in our room in a bassinet for at least 3 months though.
  • DS's crib converts to a toddler bed. The plan is to try and get him used to that before the new baby is born (he will be 22 months at due date), then transition him to a twin bed before we move the baby to the crib. We are planning on having the baby sleep in our room for the first few months anyway.

  • 2 cribs, I will keep him in the crib as long as possible
  • twin bed with rails.  started around 21 months or so.  glad we did it.  dd loves her bed.

  • I am going back and forth on this as well.  DH thought we could just get DD a toddler bed.  But I feel she won't really be ready for it until RIGHT before the baby arries and I don't want to take away her bed.  It also converts into a toddler bed - so we will just use that.

So for right now our plan is to get another crib like DD's that converts - so we are done for a while.

  • we'll be getting a new crib for #2. DD will only be 11 mos when #2 arrives and therefore nowhere near ready for a toddler or twin bed. Plus she's in a convertible as well... so we'd need another bed regardless... we're just getting the exact same crib that we bought for DD...

  • Baby will sleep in bassinet for 3-4 months and by that time DD will be 19-20 months.  We will try a toddler bed then but if she is not ready I will just let her sleep in her pack n play until she is ready.

  • We got another crib and dresser for #1 (DD). I think she may a little too young for a toddler bed. She will be 18mos when DS arrives.

  • We moved DS #1 to twin bed with rails and its just mattress on frame to keep it low...not on box spring. He did great from the start. He was 20 months old at the time. DS #2 is in the crib.
