so many of you may...or may not... know about my doctor struggles. One of the reasons for my complaints and switching to the perinatologist I have now is the way my ob handled my m/c. The last m/c was in March and at my D&C I asked for her to run pathology. First the nurse said "of course we will"... then when I asked my ob she says "no... it is against hospital policy to run pathology on m/c's earlier than 15 weeks" I was over 12 weeks for sure.... no matter how you calculate it. I didn't buy it...
We went to my gp and got a referral to my current perinatologist. I was so mad at my ob for all kinds of stuff so I just left my records and did my follow up with the peri.
Today we got a bill for pathology dated the day of my m/c. Now I'm curious. Should I call my ob and ask? Should I have my gp request the records? Should I ask my peri what to do?
Arg.

I'm so sorry, that's just wrong. If there's a bill for it, then they must have records....no records, no bill. And that's not a fight I would want to take on myself, although I would love to make that phone call for you and use it as therapy to vent my own OB frustrations!
They have already made you suffer, so don't let them do that to you again! I understand the pain and frustration on finding out the results of tests and stuff in the medical records and discovering that they could have done something to prevent the m/c from happening. My old OB could have done more than they did, but now I make sure I get copies of everything so that if something happens I can go back and talk about it or find a new Dr. and not have to go through medical record hell again! It will work out and you will have a healthy baby, I know it!
geez, what a mess.
i would first call the ob and ask if they did a path report. if they did get a copy of the results, if they didn't then have them remove the charges. GL
If you got a bill from pathology that means a pathologist looked at something....We always always send the products to pathology because you wouldn't want to miss a molar pregnancy. I can see not doing a genetic study but certainly they should always send it to path.
You can sign a release of information and have the new doctor request the pathology report from the hospital. No need to go back through the old doc.
