NBR - Freezing meat

This might be a really stupid question, but how do you freeze meat?  I've looked it up on the internet and there seems to be a couple of different methods.  I usually just vaccuum seal meat and pop it in the freezer, but it usually gets freezer burned after a few days.  Of course, I could be vaccuum sealing wrong.  I've been known to do that.  :)

Anyone have any tips?

Re: NBR - Freezing meat

  • I usually stick the original package in the freezer but when there's extra I'll either vacuum pack it or just put it in a ziplock if it' won't be there long. You want the least amount of air you can get in it to prevent freezer burn.

And because I'm cheap, freezer burned meats get well marinated and grilled in our house :)

  • It shouldnt' get freezer burned if you vac seal it.  You need to make sure you're getting all of the air out, so maybe you're not geting it all out?

You can also wrap it tightly with plastic wrap, then foil, then a ziplock or more plasitc.  But I rarely if ever do that.

  • If it's a roast or something I just toss it in the freezer in the original packaging.  If it's hamburger or something that needs to be divided I put it in freezer bags and try to squeeze out the excess air before sealing.  So you're doing better than me with the vacuum sealing!
