I just found out that we are expecting Identical Twin Girls. Very excited to say that so far they are very healthy weighing 13oz and 12oz. Though I was very shocked to find out that many people had negative and rude comments to say about them being twin girls.... anyone else run into this? My husband and I were just pleased they were fine... ofcourse in a perfect world everyone wants a boy and girl but health should be the most important. I have had people say things like "two girls would be unbearable" "might as well buy tampax and lipstick now" " wouldn't you rather have one of each?".....though it could be hormones i found the comments somewhat hurtful. They are babies...not monsters.
The girls share a placenta so I have read that because of that the risk for TTTS goes up...anyone know much about this issue?
On another note. I had morning sicknes until week 19 ...im week 20 now and came down with a sinus infection and cannot breathe at all.... anyone else had to deal with this
Re: Identical twins question... and a few others
We have not run into any rude comments about the twins. We have three wonderful little girls and yes I would love to of had one of each but I would not have it any other way.
Our girls did share a placenta but never showed any signs of TTTS. The Peri told me that if they were going to have it they would show signs anywhere between 16-24 weeks after that they usually don't develop TTTS.
I was told the MS can be much worse than a single pregnancy, I was pleased not to have any MS with either pregnancy but I was graced with horrible Reflux from 16 weeks with the twins and 26 weeks with DD #1.
Congrats on the Girls!!
I'm having identicals, but boys instead and have had negative comments like you in that regards and also about wouldn't you rather have one of each- to be honest I'm excited to be having twins regardless of their gender and am glad they are healthy, unfortunately I don't think people think when they say comments like that...
My twins are sharing a placenta as well, at my 23 weeks ultrasound each twin weighed around 1 lbs 5 oz each, but I have to go in every two weeks to make sure to keep an eye out in regards to TTTS and to check up make sure everything is ok.
We are having identical boys. I haven't really gotten to many rude comments about the boys.?
However we are dealing with the TTTS. They didn't get it until we were 27- 28 weeks along and since it was that late in gestation all they can and will do is a amnio reduction. So far it has worked, but I have to go in for doctor appt. 3 times a week. Plus now with this they will not let me go past 35 weeks so they have a c-section scheduled for June 18.
I wish you the best with your pregnancy. ?

First off...CONGRATS on your little baby girls!! I'm so happy for you guys! We actually first were told B/G and then 3 weeks later ...surprise!!....it is now two baby girls!!! When we told our close friends/family, they all were just thankful that they were healthy--gender didn't matter at all! (my DH & I were over the moon about them, regardless the sexes!) I hear ya though on people saying things (without thinking...) like some of my DH's guy friends (go figure) saying it's a bummer that the u/s was wrong. ?$#@!
Just disregard the negativity and stay thrilled for being on Team Pink!! As far as the TTTS--mine are in separate sacs/placentas, but I know there are definetly other women on this board that can be of better help answering your Qs. My friend from college has identical twin girls and they are now 3 and as cute as buttons!! GL and again, congrats on your lil' princesses!
Congratulations on your girls! I don't know why people say the things they do, and the rude comments won't stop when the babies get here either! I hear all the time "ugh, two boys?". Blah!
Mine shared a placenta and we were monitored pretty closely by a perinatologist to check for ttts. They started to show signs at the very beginning (35 weeks) so I delivered that week. Are you being followed by a peri? That would probably be a good step for you, just to monitor weights and make sure nothing serious is going on.
I did have someone say to me 'eeewww two girls' and also another guy said something about the world doesnt need more girls or something like that. people suck!
Congrats on your twin girls!
First of all, congrats on your girls!!
I have identical twin girls, and I haven't gotten comments like that! People suck! My girls are wonderful and amazing and I wouldn't change a thing! I cannot believe the rudeness!?
Congrats on the girls!!! That is so awesome. Sorry about the stupid comments.
I had identicals and TTTS. It is great that you are 21 weeks and their weights are the same. Make sure that you are monitored closely with more ultrasounds than normal. Also, if your belly grows a lot within a short time period, or you get extremely uncomfortable or tight in the belly that can be a warning sign of TTTS (I had this but since my doc never told me I had one placenta I didn't know).
Check out https://www.tttsfoundation.org/ for some info. I don't want to freak you out b/c most likely your girls will be just fine but it's better to be educated!
