An upper-up at DH's company made a comment today about "not having much long-term stuff" for "them" (who "them" means, I don't know) and it got me thinking...
If your or DH's job was unstable, would you put off TTC?
I personally wouldn't. There will ALWAYS be a reason, something you want to do first, something you want to buy first, want to have XX$ saved up......so I wouldn't let it stop me.

A few months ago there was big time layoffs in DH's company and we discussed putting off TTC Suddenly he thinks it's fine now but I refuse to put off TTC. I put it off for a year to save for an imaginary baby that never came. I told DH I'd even get a second job before I put it off. I don't know why I'm more determined than ever??

I got laid off in December (Merry eff'n Christmas, eh), and DH and I were trying before that, and we put it off for 2 months (basically December and January), but then we decided to just go for it, and deal with the consequences later. By that, I mean that I was working in Commercial Banking, and when I got laid off, I was initially looking to get back into that, and then decided to just be a doula full time, so that when I have my own kids, I don`t have to leave them in day care. It was a big financial decision, but, thanks to being laid off, I now am doing something full time that I love, and once we have kids, i`ll still be able to be there for them. I love it!
So, yes, it affected our decision, but for the better!

No, we are in a position that we would be ok for 2 years if anything were to happen. DH is very responsible when it comes to that....I on the other hand had never had a savings account until I met DH.
It would be stressful but we would be fine and will continue our plans.

TWO YEARS??? Good for you guys! We're working on an 8-month cushion, and that's hard!
I mean that is why we are waiting... to save up and so maybe hopefully I magically lose 20 lbs. But I have a hinch we might get a little money for Christmas...
Because of the toll the swine flu took on the economy here in Mexico, both of our jobs are ?unstable? I suppose. I was just telling him last night how I don?t even want to wait until October.. sooo its going to be a super looooong and tough wait : ( No so good with the whole patience thing. And you knwo what, living here has humbled me. I seriously think I am going to buy only the absolute neccesities for the baby, because really, what else do you need? There are so many poor families here with lots of kids and it just made me re-think every thing. I will never feel like I have enough money, but I wont let it stop my dream of having a child. Before I was drooling over Juicy Couture diaper bags and this...
but I will be happy to have anything for the baby. Plus, that?s what mom is for - to spoil her grandchild : )

We found out we were pregnant the day after DH was laid off. We were initially very worried about him having no job and being pregnant but were still excited. Unfortunatley, we miscarried a week later. We decided to wait for a couple of cycles to see if he could find a job and so that we could heal emotionally. I know that there is never a perfect time to have a baby and that something always come up but I am a worrier and him being unemployed would have just been an added stress. He has since found a 6 month contract job (with the potential to go permanent) and we are activley TTC now.
I personally wouldn't. There will ALWAYS be a reason, something you want to do first, something you want to buy first, want to have XX$ saved up......so I wouldn't let it stop me.
This exactly!?

Ditto! My DH was laid off in January a few weeks after we discovered we were pg. A week later we had the m/c. Because of him being out of work we waited FIVE months...they were the longest five months of my life. He's still not working but we decided to TTC again. I have insurance and making pretty good money. DH should be able to find employment in 10 months, so we should be good.
M/C #1 - BFP 12/28/2008. Confirmed m/c at 6wks - blighted ovum on 1/9/2009.
M/C #2 - BFP 6/16/2009. Confirmed m/c at 7wks - blighted ovum on 7/1/2009.
That's a tough one, but the answer would have to be yes. If this IVF cycle doesn't work and DH were to lose his job, that we would have to hold off, because I am a SAHW now. That scenario would be my worst nightmare.

This and as we are becoming too painfully aware, we can't plan when we will get pregnant.

I think it totally depends on your age.... I am 37 so I wouldn't.
