So, obviously, it's hot outside these days. And since we don't have A/C (like most homes around here), it's really warm inside, too. DH and I are thinking about buying a portable A/C unit. I've been considering it for years, but now DH is really pushing that he thinks we should buy one. I'm not against it except for justifying the cost. I'm about 90% on board now, though. I am not a warm weather person. And even though DH is, he's overheating in the house lately, too.
My questions are to anyone who has one... Is it worth it? How many rooms does it cool? How convenient is it to use? Anything else we should keep in mind as we consider this?
ETA: Just to clarify, I'm not referring to the window units. Those are not allowed in our duplex. I'm talking about the portable floor models.

Haha- that's where DH last saw them and he came home talking all about buying one! :-)
The prices were actually better at Lowe's, as I noticed this past weekend. DH says we need to think about the BTU's, not the square footage. But room sizes mean more to me. :-) I don't want to have to drag this thing around from the living room to the bedroom every day, so I'm not sure where/how we'd position it. Apparently it also needs to vent the hot air exhaust thru a window.

It's a GIRL! Lydia Marie!
We have one and it works great, 'm actually planning on selling it since we just got a/c in our house.
It was a great solution when we were roasting to death and we slept many a night with it going. It was pretty easy to move around and put in our bedroom window or a sliding door. It cooled off our second level at our old house really well. It will cool about 1000 sqft at a time. They are pretty straight forward I think we paid around $399 for ours and it has been worth every penny!
This is ours except ours is black

I think this is the one we have! It works good for one room type cooling. Our master is about 400 sq ft and it cools it down nicely. We do move it from our TV room to our master at night and that is super convinent. I would for sure buy another one if we had to do it all over again!
Thank you so much, ladies!! I'll give DH the thumbs up to start comparing BTU's (which is what he wants to do before we make a decision). I was mostly concerned about convenience and placement (and price, of course). But it sounds pretty easy to move around and very worthwhile! :-)
Anyway, thank you!

You better act fast... I'd get out there and get it today. By this weekend, my bet is that no one will have them in stock.
We put central air in our house and it was worth every penny. So I'd say any AC relief woudl be worth the cost.
