you're a genius.  that response about irrational fear and making up ways to control things was like eye opening to me.  i do that all the time!  i hope this doesn't sound weird, but you just gave me a whole new way of looking at things that stress me out.

    My degree is in psychology so I have a little knowledge of cognitive behavioral therapy techniques (nothing professional, just basic stuff). I actually kind of figured this out when I was trying to get over my fear of flying without having to pay for counseling, lol. After thinking about it a great deal, I realized that my "fears" were really my way of attempting to control the safety of the plane. I hated the thought that there was nothing I could do to prevent a crash, so my crazy brain decided that losing it at every little noise/bump/etc was the way to go, lol.

    Once I got that it was a total breakthrough. I'm not afraid of flying anymore, and it's helped me relax about a lot of other stuff too :)
