Doppler tips...

OK, my doppler just arrived. I splurged on the 3MHz probe - sonotrax basic. I am 10w5d and I know it's early and it might be hard to find it so I won't freak out if I can't.

Now, with that said... what are your tips? I know to look really, really low and to search really, really slowly.  I also am working on filling up my bladder.

What else?

Thanks!

  • In addition to moving it slowly and methodically around, also move it so the probe points in all different angles in one spot.  I don't know if that makes sense.  Let's say you put it on your stomach, then rotate the probe around to point it down toward your toes, up toward your heart, etc.  Good luck!
  • Go low, like right below your hair line. You also have to push a little hard, that's right about the time I found the girls.

  • Lay completely flat on your bed, I didn't even use a pillow. Also, use lots of gel!

  • And be patient. If you don't find it right away, don't freak out. Push hard (I think someone said that) and I had to turn the volume up really high on mine. Good luck!

See......I have to disagree with the poster who said to move it in all directions. I always keep my probe pointed DOWN and I find it very quickly.....but I guess it probably depends on the position of the baby.

I know you know its early........but just so you really don't freak out: my OB could NOT find our baby's h/b at 12w5d.......I got my doppler a couple days later when I was 13w2d and I found it then.......

    GL!
