I am wanting to propose an alternative work schedule. I work 8-5 M-F during non-busy season (I'm a CPA). I would like to work 7-3:30 with a 30 minute lunch and every other Friday off. I will cut my salary by the loss of the fridays.
Accounting firms pride themselves on alternative work arranagements for moms. However, some of the partners at my firm are stuck back in the '40s. They are so afraid that everyone is out to screw them. I need some reasons on why this schedule benefits them. Why is this arrangement good for them?
Re: Flex time Proposal - Alternative Hours
Ugh - I hate this crap when everyone knows you are making stuff up, but you still have to do it. Here are some things people at my work have said. Good luck!
1. Quiet time in the am allows you to be more productive/less distracted w/o the phone ringing, etc.
2. Less time off for doctor's appointments, etc as you can schedule them on Friday's.
3. A better attitude happier employee
I also work for an accounting firm and we have all sorts of flexibility programs. I told my boss that I wanted to change my schedule to be 7:30-4 so that I could handle daycare pickup with no stress - it is by my house closes at 6 and my commute is about 40 minutes w/out traffic. I didn't need to make a proposal - she was amenable to it and after talking to HR we didn't even need to document it as a formal arrangement. I work in a national office, not at a client site though - so that might be the difference.
If they have the programs, I'm not sure you need to really show how it benefits them - they know it benefits them - which is why they have the programs. Plus, a lot of them are approving work arrangements they might not have in the past to cut expenses.
LOL. I love it!
