Trying to Get Pregnant

A trick that helped me score a BFP

After sixteen unsuccessful cycles and tests to make sure we were both capable of conception -- we were totally frustrated with the whole process of getting pregnant.

A friend of mine [who got the information from her fertility doctor] suggested taking a tablespoon of Robitussian DM daily for two months because it worked for her multiple times.

Long story short, I took it for three weeks, was with DH for one night and scored a BFP.  I'm not saying it will work for everyone, every time, but I'm convinced it was the turning point for us.

Good luck girls!  :)

  • Yeah most of us here know that taking guaifenesin (found in Robitussin and other cough syrups) helps with EWCM. Many of us have also tried green tea which also helps with ewcm. Unfortunately, it doesn't always guarantee you will get pregnant.

    Congratulations on your BFP.

  • Congrats!  That was nice of you to share.

  • I may have to try that if this cycle doesn't work out for me.

No ***? Really?  I better go get some.

    Thanks for the unsolicited advice.

I bet you don't even know what that Robitussin did for you specifically.  (It gave you more fertile cervical mucus...we know this from reading and actually participating on this board.)

Congrats on your pregnancy!  H&H 9 months.

    This.

  • And here I thought it had more sperm in it. DAMN!
  • Congratulations. I think it was nice of you to share what you've learned -- even if you do not participate on this board frequently. I think some people take snark a little to far.

Its just frustrating to hear stories about someone who struggled (but obvioulsy didn't do much research on her own for 16months to hear about fertils CM- I'm guessing they didn't chart either) - took Robitussin b/c a friend told her to and then "Scored" a BFP...

A BFP isn't like "scoring" awesome seats at a concert...

The message and wording rubbed me the wrong way.

I understand your point and we're all guilty of of this from time to time. It just seems, IMO, that you have been extra hard on people lately. Remember that ultimately we're here to support each other. If you're having a hard time and want to chat, please IM me. I was feeling really negative last month and would happy to "talk."

I have to agree with the whole, everyone is guilty at some point of being snarky. In the long run, we are here to ultimately support each other.
  • Congrats!! I think we all should remember that every day there is a newbie that joins the board who doesn't know this information. I'm sure we all remember the first time we read about Robitussin or Mucinex. So for someone, this is the first they heard about it.
  • Congratulations, H&H 9 months!
  • Not to interrupt the snark, but if there are ladies reading about Robitussin for the first time here, this info may be useful:

What kind of Robitussin is used to improve cervical mucus?

One should buy the plain kind with no letters after it. The only active ingredient is guaifenesin, and it contains 100 mg per teaspoon. It is very important to avoid the versions that contain decongestants as those may dry up cervical mucus. Also, there is some conflicting information about whether dextromethorphan, the DM in some cough medicine names, may be linked to birth defects such as neural tube defects and cleft palate.

There seems to be lots of newbies (like me!) around lately so thanks for sharing!
