Moms : Swaddle Question

So I had my baby showers this weekend and recieved a bunch of SwaddleMe blankets as well as receiveing blankets. Assuming both are used to swaddle, which one works better? Should I keep all?

BFF LOVED the SwaddleMe blankets.  Her son was much happier and fell asleep faster when he was all comfy-cozy in his SwaddleMes. He wasn't able to get his arms out of the SwaddleMes but he could get them out of the regular blankets when she swaddled him in those.

For us, regular receiving blankets worked really well when she was newborn and SwaddleMes were good once she was a few weeks older.

I would keep them, swaddling will be your best friend for the first few months, so it might be nice to have some options. You can always return them later!

We used both. We started with receiving blankets when she was little and couldn't get out of them.  Once she started breaking out of them we moved over to the SwaddleMe blankets.  IMO you can't have enough, we would go through them fast since DD spit up a lot.We really loved the SwaddleMe and next time we are just going to start using them, I forgot we had them until she was a little older.

We never used the SwaddleMe blankets we received.  Mikayla did NOT like having her arms swaddled, but liked having her legs and torso swaddled, so we used regular receiving blankets and swaddled her from under the arms down.  Plus the time or two we tried the SwaddleMe blankets, M looked like a sad little mummy log and I just couldn't do it.  ~

most "receiving blankets" are too small for swaddling.  

swaddle mes are liked by a lot of people, but they didn't work for us b/c we swaddled Ben with his arms out.    the only ones I liked were the "Ultimate Swaddling Blankets"... they're HUGE.

Receiving blankets are very versatile and are great to swaddle with when you have a newborn. At some point though, your baby's arms and legs get stronger, and they can break out of a receiving blanket swaddle, and that's where the swaddle me comes in.

We didn't use it for her during the day, but at night it was great. I didn't have to worry about her body temperature so much because the swaddle me kept it all even.

I used the receiving blanket to swaddle during the day for about the first two months, with a few uses in the third, as part of the Five S's from the Happiest Baby on the Block. It works great for helping a baby calm down.

Oh, and those receiving blankets now are used for floor time, breast-feeding props, keeping the sun off of her while she's in the car seat. When she gets older, I want to take all of the hand made ones and create a quilt (time and ability allowing).

Thank you ALL for your insight! Being a first time mom, I am still getting the gist of what everything is used for. I will probably keep everything and return what I don't use later on (if I have to at all).

DS hated being swaddled so we never used any swaddle blankets.  We did get a ton of use out of the receiving blankets though.  They can be used as just about anything.  You probably want to keep some of each or wait to return them later after you find out what your baby likes.

I hope you received the two different SwaddleMe blanket sizes.  I still swaddle my big baby.  Some kids are bigger so having the large size is also great to have.  Another blanket I love using now, swaddling dd with it during these hot days, is the Swaddle Design.  It's a pretty big blanket and love them for belly time or covering up dd away from the sun.  It may take you a couple months to figure out what works and doesn't work.
