Pregnant after a Loss

When will I have another pelvic? (possible TMI)

I only have had 1 and that was at like 6 weeks.  I am now 23 weeks.  I got to thinking about it because of the BV post below.  Is it something they will detect in the urine or do they need to do a pelvic?

I am super sensitive to smells right now so I don't know if the oder I smell is normal and never thought about it until now.

Thanks.Embarrassed

Re: When will I have another pelvic? (possible TMI)

  • I had one at my first appt at 8wks, and my next one was my internal at 36wks.

They did do a swab at 20wks when I mentioned my increased discharge and odor (turned out to be BV), but it wasn't really a pelvic, just a quick cotton swab. They would not have done it had I not mentioned my symptoms.

  • I will ask Tuesday at my next appt.  Thanks!!! :)

BTW...is it strange that all of my appointment are a week before the "milestone" dates?

    I had my 20w at 19w 2d  & my 24w is at 23w 2d?

The ONLY time I had an internal/pelvic was when I was having signs of pre-term labor (during early 3rd tri with DS......).

I had one a couple weeks ago b/c I was having some spotting with this PG.....

My OB's office only does them if they are absolutely necessary since internals can cause spotting. My OB's office doesn't even do them to check how dialated you are since it doesn't really mean much......

I really wouldn't worry about it. If you are having symptoms, then call and I'm sure they will check it out.........

  • I'm sorry to scare you!!! Sometimes posting questions on here can be more harmful than helpful. Just mention it at your appt on Tuesday. I'll be saying something as well about the funny odor I'm smelling. It's not overwhelming, just different than normal. To answer your question, I had an internal when I first got my BFP to get a Pap, and then again at 13 weeks because I was having some pain/pressure. She just checked to make sure my cervix was closed, no swabs or anything done.

It's ok!  You had a legitimate concern and then I piggybacked on it! lol.  It's how we all learn!  I hope everything starts going better for you so you can relax too!  :)

  • a lot of OB's dont like to do a lot of internals unless absolutely necessary ie. change in discharge, unusual odor, bleeding etc. My doc said that he didnt want to affect my "cervical integrity" I think when he had to do the second one in 2 weeks it hurt him more than it hurt me, lol.
