Follicle size/stimming ? SAIF

Hey ladies...I am trying not to be overly anxious and ask 800 million questions but I figured you all would understand my anxiety...and of course we are all here to answer each other's questions, right?

Here goes....today was my 2nd follicle check, I have been on stims for 4 days.  The dr estimated 20 follicles But they are each only about 3.5 in size.  Can anyone tell me if this is good, bad, average etc as far as size?  The doctor who did my u/s isnt my normal dr so I am waiting until I see him to ask.  TIA.

Re: Follicle size/stimming ? SAIF

  • So long as they are getting bigger with each check, usually its fine.  I'm assuming you say 2nd follie check, you mean the 1st after starting stims, right?  The first check is a basline ultrasound.  Plus they also want to make sure you estrogen is increasing from the baseline u/s, so those are the 2 things they check.  Its basically not telling the RE anything except if and how to adjust your meds.
  • Don't worry I think everyone is anxious on here! I always have lots of small follicles and it takes a loonngg time to make one big enough. What meds are you using? I always have to do a second round of clomid to make ?it work. On average it has taken 35-45 days to get a follicle. obviously I am not a good responder to clomid, but I think it shows there is a big variation in times for growth. Some people are ready day 9 some aren't. GL!?

  • Jcombs: actually, I meant my 2nd check since my baseline. I went in yesterday, my estrogen was at 1221 so they cut my menopour & bravelle in half. Yesterday they just told me there were lotts of little follies & didnt mention actual sizes.
  • I think you are chugging along nicely. I think we all expect a huge responce after being on so much drugs, and we expect to see it right away. But with IVF it is slow and steady that will win the race. I never saw much until I was about 7 or 8 days into stims (4th follie check) and then they all seemed to pop!
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • Wow...you get a lot of monitoring!  I just had the appointment 4-5 days into stims and then again a few days later on my IVF.  It sounds like with that E2, you have a bunch of stuff brewing in there.  Its no problem if they grow slowly...with that many, you probably would rather let them take their time or you'll get worn out quick!
  • Thanks for the responses. I guess for some reason I didnt realize how much I was going to analyze each step. The dr called and said my estrogen is down to 436 which he is very happy about. My med doses are back up and I go for another check on Tues. ***fingers crossed*** Thanks again for your input Smile
  • It sounds like you are doing great....my dr doesnt measure anything under 10mm, so i don't know how mine were growing a few days ago, but at 6 days of stims, mine were all between 9.5 and 13mm. ?Now that your estrogen is back down, i think you're right on track. ?good luck at your appt Tuesday!
