What is "dusk" to you?

We're going to a drive-in tonight and it says it starts at dusk. ?Would you say that's sunset, or just when it starts to darken a little? ?The gates open at 7, but sunset isn't until 8:15 or so. ?I'd rather not wait in the car with the kids for an hour!

Re: What is "dusk" to you?

  • Dusk, to me, is when the sun is low in the sky before sunset. It's still light out, just not 'bright'.
  • DH and I investigated this a while back as a police man gave my DH a rough time about being at the local park past "dusk".  The official word is one hour before the sunset for that day. If sunset is 8:15, I'd say 7:15 is dusk.

If they were going to fine my DH along those lines, I would say its a pretty sure bet for a drivein.

  • All I got from dictionary.com was "the darker stage of twilight". ?That was helpful, no?

Your definition sounds much better, thanks! ?

  • We went to a drive in on Thursday, they said the movie was going to start at 8:35 it actually started at 8:50.
