Cloth Diaper Questions...

So we have been using gDiapers but they've stopped working. I'm thinking about going to cloth diapers but I some questions for the pros.

What is the differene between all-in-one and one-size? It may be a dumb question but I asked anyways.

Which brand do you personally use? Why?

What do you do when your out and about?

I will probably add more as I do more research.

AIO are the most similar to disposable diapers. ?They are sized, and are very simple to use. ?The two main concerns with those are that they are expensive and they take forever to dry. ?

OS are usually pockets, although I think some fitteds come in OS? Not sure. ?Pockets are like AIO that separate in 2 pieces: the inserts and the pockets. ?So you have to stuff them before use. ?I stuff mine right when they are dry, so they are always ready to use. ?You can adjust the absorbency as needed which is great. ? With a front loading washing machine, you'll need to unstuff them before washing, it is not necessary with a top loader, they'll separate in the wash. ?

I use mainly Bumgenius one-size, and I also have a couple of apple cheeks. ?I only have pockets and really like them. ?Apple cheeks have snaps, while my BG have velcro. ?Both have their pros and cons. ?Velcro will wear out faster, but is easier to adjust. ?But the baby can remove them easier than the snaps. ?I like snaps, but DH and my DCP can never put them on properly for some reason. ??

  • All-in-one (AIO's) are diapers that don't need a cover, and don't have to be stuffed with an insert (like a pocket diaper) to have absorption - basically it's the easiest diaper - no fuss.  However, it isn't always the most absorbent option.

One size diapers are diapers that essentially 'grow' with your LO - they have extra snaps to adjust between small, med and large sizes.  They can be fitteds (which require a cover), pockets (which require stuffing with inserts) or AIO's.  I have one sizes of all of those.

We have quite a few different diapers.  If we had to pare it down - We like our BG3.0 pockets (one size) - good for the price and work well.  Nice basic diaper.  We use either a BG with extra hemp inserts or our B4 (bububebe) fitted (one size) with a wool cover for night.  I also like our cricketts fitted diapers for daytime (they work really well now that DS has grown into the generally large leg holes) and our prefolds.
