any good carpet shampoo recommendations??

So..as much as I would love to, we don't have the money to have our carpets professionally cleaned. We have a pretty good carpet shampooer, but I'm wondering if using a different/better shampoo would help. We've only been here a year and we cleaned them about six months ago and they're looking really ucky again (What do I expect with two long hair cats, a black medium hair dog, and a crawling baby? Smile)

  • I think the Rug Doctor does a great job.  We rent it from the local Safeway for about $26 for 24 hours.

  • we rented the rug doctor for a day, was $24, then like $8 for the shampoo

  • we have a bissell...  try one of their deep clean solutions...  I love the smell of the lavender... and yeah... I basically shampoo monthly

  • We own one. ?It was less than $100 at Target. ?You definitely save $$$ in the long run buy buying one. ?If you don't want to make the investment now, I've used the rentals from Safeway and they do a great job.
  • My favorite spot remover, Folex, can be used in a carpet cleaner. I haven't tried it yet, I have been trying to use up my old stuff first, but like I said - for spots its my favorite, so why wouldn't i love it as a cleaner?

  • The Rug Doctor works great but you might want to consider buying your own.  I have the Hoover with deep cleaning action brushes and I love it.  I am a bit neurotic about shampooing the carpets!
