And, how high did your BP's get before your OB said you had to deliver?
I know everyones experiences are different, just want to hear about them!
I found out this week (24w2d) that I have high BPs (highest has been 140/100) and protein in urine. I occassionally get headaches and floaters, but really have not had swelling, abd pain, etc.
I am still working and will get results from 24 hour urine and PIH labs on Monday. This will tell me if I need bedrest or not.
Which leads me to another question...How did they decide if you needed home bedrest or hospital?
My biggest concern right now is growth restriction. I can already tell that LO's movements have slowed a bit and he is much more active when I lay on my left side than any other time during the day.
Thanks for your responses. I am guessing I will be joining your club soon!
Re: How long between when diagnosed with Pre-e and delivery
Generally, most women go two weeks after diagnosis before delivery for pre-e.
Being hospitalized on bedrest sucks, but it is also very reassuring because you know you are being watched closely. Every ob has different criteria for hospital bedrest vs home bedrest.
With my first pg, my bp was 180/120 when I was put in the hospital and was delivered 24hours later. With my 2nd pg, my bp was 150/90 before I was started on bp meds but was delivered two weeks later because my platelets started dropping really low.
I would talk to your ob and find out what their criteria for delivery will be. Hugs.
My oldest son was born at 36w and days but....I started symptoms about 2 weeks prior, was put on bedrest and was told I was going to be induced if I didn't go into labor on my own, that was a Friday. I went in for my 3 days a week check-up. I was going M-W and F at that point. Went in on Monday and was in beginning labor, they kept me ovrenight and broke my water the following morning.
With my twins, I started showing signs at 32w3d and they were hoping to get another 2 weeks out of me. Baby A had other plans and his water broke on 32w4d.
With my youngest, I had high blood pressure the entire pregnancy. Around 28 they said it was pre-e, went on bedrest. Had headaches, spots, etc around 31 weeks and was given steriods and told to be prepared to deliver at any point thereafter. I had weekely BPP, NST, 24 hour urine and bedrest again. I had gotten off at 28 weeks from my cerclage. I also met with a mfm about my blood pressure. At 34w5d, my BP was 175/115 and I was admitted. I had a headache, was seeing spots, blurry vision. My liver functions showed they were elevated. The OB wanted to see how long I could last although she said it wouldn't be long. The following day I started having right quadrant pain along with the other symptoms and my liver functions were worse, and a few hours later even worse. They decided to deliver that night. The OR was avaliable around midnight, and by the time they got everything ready he was born at 1 am. My BP was 160/110 during delivery and got even higher duing my c-section.
About 36 hours.
My BP was 240/180, and I had a stroke sitting at my desk at work... I went to L&D and that was the first official diagnosis of pre-e. I got the 1st steroid shot with the plan to wait 24 hours, give me the 2nd shot then 24 hours later than that, deliver if needed. (If the mag sulf didn't get my BP down)
They didn't even wait that second 24 hours after the 2nd shot... had to get him out ASAP.
We had a few hours in between. The week before I had a regular OB appointment and for the first time had elevated BP and some protein in my urine. The had me to a 24 hour urine collection which I turned in two days later. The called me after the weekend with the results which were horrible and called me to triage unit of the hospital. Once there, I knew I was not leaving. They hoped the IV medication could keep things in control for 2 more weeks. I arrived at the hospital at 11am, was admited at 2pm, and delivered at 7pm.
Scary, but we survived and are living very happily inspite of that experience! Best of luck!
49 hours from doctor's office to delivery.
My BP was up and down.. as high as 200/100, sometimes as "low" as 150/85.
At the hospital, my protein was already 5+, though.
what finally put them over the edge was I got a throbbing headache, was seeing stars and my stomach started hurting again (all at once.) My liver enzymes are elevated as well. Basically, everything combined together meant baby immediately..
My Blog
10 days.
I was in and out of the hospital on hospital bedrest 3 times. I was very lucky I was there on hospital bedrest the third time when I had a placental abruption. I was run down the hall, knocked out, and had the quickest emergency c-section ever.
Less than 2 hours. My pre-e was not only severe but it was an atypical presentation which meant I didn't have any of the symptoms they were looking for (with the added fun of multi-organ failure!). I was in the hospital bed with a bunch of people trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with me...and wondering why the baby was ok but I wasn't.
Finally a group of perinatologist from various hospitals in various states had a conference call and figured it out and just in time - they prepped my husband for maternal death as they were wheeling me into the OR :-(
In the OR as they were prepping for the c-section my BP was 245/137.
About 24 weeks or so, my BP was getting pretty high. At 34 weeks, I was admitted to L&D. I was there for 5 hr or so. I then had a growth u/s and weekly NSTs.
On 12/31: Normal BP at NST but at dr app't 3 hr later it spiked to 150/110.
I then began my 24 hr urine. It showed a level of 300, which is borderline. Because BP rose throughout my preg, I was diag. with superimposed pre-e.
1/2: began induction. Had emer c/s since DSs heartrate dropped sig. after each contraction.
DS was born on 1/3 at 36w4d.
After I was diagonsed, I delivered a week later because DD failed her second BPP of the day.
She was growth restricted and IGUR as well. At 33 weeks she was only 2lbs. 15oz.
I am shocked that they still have you working with those symptoms and BP reading.
I was admitted right away with a 150/90 BP reading and spilling 3+ urine.
Stay on your left side the entire time. I wasn't allowed to move and couldn't get up except to use the restroom. Only allowed to shower every other day. Make sure to get the steriod shots. They can control your BP with meds, but I would be calling your OB back first thing on Monday. Take it easy this weekend.
Katie: 1/16/08 2lbs. 15oz.
Abby & Emily: 12/31/10 6lbs. 2oz. & 5lbs. 7oz.
I rolled into the hospital w/a kidney infection at 28 weeks 1 day, and was transferred 4 days later to another hospital because of pre-e and the fact that our baby has a heart defect that cannot be repaired at the local hospital. The drs. kept saying they were going to deliver any day but I managed to hold out for another 2 weeks. I was 30w 6d when my platelets dropped below 100k and we were forced to deliver as I had developed HELLP. My BP was high thru out the 2 weeks but never got more than 190/100 on occasion.
Good luck to you and your little one!
