Question about how soon to induce or c-section?

Do you think my OB will let me either be induced or schedule my c-section for 37 weeks 2 days??

Right now LO is breech so I am not sure I am going to be c-section or induced.  (I have to be scheduled so I can go off blood thinners and reduce bleeding during delivery).

I will be 38 weeks on July 5th and I was thinking it would be nice to have my LO for the 4th of July (I know how selfish of me) so if I delivered on June 30th I would be home for a couple of days and had time to recoup from the delivery.  That way I would be able to go to the picnics....

So do you think my OB will let me deliver this early.... she said 38-39 weeks... one week earlier isn't that much.

It actually is that much earlier...I've learned a lot in the last week or two. The only reason I will go any earlier is if I start to progress on my own, because I cannot go vbac.

You'll have more fun without him on the 4th anyway, would you really want to take him outside at a week old with all that noise and smoke? Nope, suck it up and wait, sorry.

I am in the exact same position as you.  Breech and on heparin.  I am going to ask my doc tomorrow if I can go at 38 weeks because from all the issues we have had, I just don't find the extra week worth it.  I will find out tomorrow what he says and update you.

Thanks I am interested what your Dr says... I know she will take me at 38 weeks if I am uncomfortable and wanting to deliver... I just don't know if she will take me any earlier...

Oh and to add if you have a c section 4 days is NO WHERE NEAR long enough to recupe and go to some pic nics!

Believe it or not, you will enjoy the 4th ALOT better without your LO. C/s healing sucks and I doubt that you will be up for anything 4 days pp. I would wait.

Yeah I agree. You won't want to be up for much if LO is on the outside and you have some stitches across your tummy. After seeing the c/s video in class it's a wonder anyone ever recovers. It seriously freaked me out!

Just an FYI my Dr told me unless there is a serious medical condition for induction or c/s insurance companies don't let you do it before 39 weeks just bc it is uncomfortable.  I am sure being breech would qualify, but I agree with D, put it off past the 4th if you can.

MIL had a scheduled c-section with DH's older brother because he was breech.  Her and the doctors wanted to go in a little early to avoid being too close to Christmas.  BIL ended up having to stay at the hospital because his lungs weren't developed enough.

I know things are different now than 30 years ago, but early is early.  I'd be careful and wait the little bit extra.

Thanks for the input.  This is my first, so I am not really sure what to expect those first few weeks after LO arrives... I guess it is just wishful thinking that I will be back to normal 4 days after delivery.

I'm JUST starting to feel normal but am far away for doing everything yet.

I am on Lovenox 40 mg 1 time a day, 5 MG of folic acid (yes 5xs the normal amount), and prenatal (which I substitute for 2 children's vitamins). 

At 35 weeks the Lovenox will be switched to heprin twice a day.  I will continue that until just before delivery and than after delivery I will be put back on the lovely lovenox for 6 weeks...

I pretty much have the same protocol.  I am on to the hep now and very much miss my Lovenox.  Now I bruise so much easier and sporadically throughout the day my injection sites will spring leaks of blood, even the old ones.  Now I usually have an average of 5 Bandaids on my belly.  Ugh  annoying. I hope it goes better for you!  I can't wait to get back to my Lovenox!

I really don't "like" the lovenox either... So I take it you bleed a lot easier while on the heprin, that stinks, but thanks for the heads up.  I am still trying to figure out how I am going to fit shots twice a day into my schedule... I really just can't wait until I am done with the injections...

most likely your LO will turn around mine did at 36 weeks. My dr. said their insurance won't do anything before 39 weeks. I'd wait unless you show signs of the baby coming earlier

I would say probably not just incase your dates are off a bit.  You never know though..but like pp have said you may actually enjoy the 4th more being pregnant.  You'll still be completely miserable a week after.  GL!!

You will definitely not be up for a picnic 4 days after giving birth. I had an easy vaginal birth (no stitches) and had to go to my sister's engagement party when DD was 4 days old. I was fat, bloated, bleeding, sore and spent the entire party in my mom's room resting and nursing my daughter. Not fun!

You will have much more fun at the picnic pregnant

I have two children.  I love them, but it would be great to enjoy a fourth of July picnic without them.  Have a nice time with your husband and enjoy your freedom and stress free days!  Besides four days pp you will feel tired, sore, and your milk will be coming in so you might be leaking a lot.

I usually try not to flame because I know how uncomfortable it is in the end, but seriously, you want to have your baby 3 weeks because 4th of July would be more fun?  You clearly have no idea what a c/s recovery is like or what it's like to have a newborn.  If I was looking to have a "fun" 4th of July I would rather be 10 days overdue than be recoving from major abdominal surgery and taking care of a newborn. 

Regardless of your crazy reasoning, unless absolutely medically necessary, a c/s is not recommended before 39 weeks.  Studies have shown that babies born via c/s prior to 39 weeks are at a higher risk for breathing problems and asthma.  When babies are delivered vaginally, the fluid is forced from their lungs from the pressure in the birth canal.  This doesn't happen for a c/s baby, which increases the risk of breathing problems.  These studies are well known and from highly respected sources.  Also, many doctors, nurses and LC's will tell you that babies born between 37 and 38 1/2 weeks tend to have more problems eating/sucking than premies and babies born after 38 1/2 weeks.  No one is sure why this is, but a lot of medical professionals belive it to be true.  I would run as far away as possible from any OB who agreed to do a c/s for your comfort or desire to have a baby for the 4th of July prior to 39 weeks.
