in law drama

how do i nicely tell my inlaws that while wednesday is DH's 29th b-day, it's not exactly the best time for them to come stay with us? They are super nice, but they make such a huge deal out of birthdays, and he does not care this year. Our little angel is great but we aren't at a point where entertaining people sounds like fun. I tried once to tell MIL that we are doing well but it's hard and having company makes it worse, but she will not stop with this birthday stuff.. she actually wants to throw a party at our house. Grr.?

Re: in law drama

  • this is one time when you are going to have to FIRMLY set boundaries bc if you do not do this now, it will only get worse.  in this case, there is no "nice" way to do it- you just have to come right out and say it.  or she will continue to steamroll you.

  • Actually I'd prefer for dh to be the "bad guy" here.

Soon to celebrate the day we met, even if the day before marks when we said goodbye.
