Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Question from 2nd Tri: Sleep sacks/Swaddle Me

I am starting to register for few things and I was wondering how many of these I really need.  As far as I know (no recent babies in my family/friends), baby is swaddled in the beginning, and the Swaddle Me would be good for when they sleep.  When they are older and no longer want/need to be swaddled, they need a sleep sack.

How many Swaddle Mes would I really need?  Should the be all in small because they only use them in the beginning?
How many sleep sacks do I need per size?

I have Baby Bargains, but they did not give a number.
So much I don't know!  Thanks so much in advance!

Re: Question from 2nd Tri: Sleep sacks/Swaddle Me

  • I would only register for a few (maybe 2 or 3) your baby may hate them and they're fairly inexpensive - ~$10 maybe - you can always get more.

FWIW - I got both SwaddleMes and Halo Sleep Sack w/ Swaddle.  And I loved the Halo Sleep Sack Swaddle, which, of course, are twice the price.

  • I had 3 or 4 but had only washed 1 before DS was born. Lucky, too, since he HATES being swaddled and I returned the unopened ones and gave the other one away. So, get them, but don't wash them.

  • We didn't have any swaddlemes... just sleep sacks (2). DD hated being swaddle at first we used a light blanker (she was born in August) and then moved straight into the sleepsack

  • I used the miracle blanket to swaddle, I had 2. I also have 2 halo sleep sacks that are size medium (6-12) I never needed the size small sleep sacks because we were using the miracle blanket then.
  • My DD always squirmed out of the Swaddle me . . . I liked the Halo Sleep Sack with the swaddle wings MUCH better. I would get a few (maybe 3-4). I didn't need to wash mine everyday (she always slept in something and then was covered in the sleepsack so it was rare that she would get anything on the sleep sack). My LO was in the smallest size for a long time - like 3 months.
  • I used receiving blankets to swaddle in the first week or two (the one they give you in the hospital is the best).  Then I moved to the Miracle Blanket...I have one and that's sufficient considering DD no longer likes to be swaddled.  I have one sleep sack that I got for a couple of bucks on clearance at Target.  And that's sufficient as well.  I wash her clothes/blankets a few times a weeks so I have what I need.

  • We used two small swaddlemes. It was good to have two since he spit up on them a lot in the beginning. I could have used a third one, but never got around to buying it.

DS is now almost 4 mo old and we are using the large size. He still seems to like being swaddled at night. Not so much during the day for naps anymore.

We also have some sleep sacks, but DS hasn't used them yet. They are 0-9 mo but I don't know if he will get to use them. By the time he is done being swaddled, it will be pretty warm for the fleece sleep sacks we have. Oh well.

  • Wow!  Thank you for all the great information!!  I am going to look into all the brands mentioned, too!  Sounds like they may be the best option.  Thanks again!
