car seat ? for anyone w/Highlander

For anyone with a Toyota Highlander, how did you install your infant car seat?  I am waiting to schedule an appt. to have it inspected but I thought I'd check here too.  Our Highlander has the latch system but only on the 2 side seats, not the middle.  When we tried to put the base in the middle with the seatbelt, it really felt rather loose.  So, we hooked it up using one of the latch hooks from either side.  It is pretty sturdy now but I wasn't sure if that was allowed.

 Any insight appreciated!

It doesn't have to be in the middle.  Just make sure it's on the passenger side.

It does suck that you can't use the latch system in the middle seat.  We had to use the seat belt to install the car seat base.  In DH's tundra, the middle seat is big enough to use the latch system.

We have it on the side in our Highlander.
