forgive my stupidity: c-sections

I saw another post that said something about having staples removed.  They put staples in?  WTF?  If I have another baby, I am required to have a c-section (DD literally tore me up).  Now I am just a little freaked out

Re: forgive my stupidity: c-sections

  • I had staples. Nothing to be freaked out about. I didn't feel them. Coming out there was slight pinch but nothing to be afraid of!
  • it really depends on the dr and the hospital.  I had staples and was totally freaked out.  But honestly it didnt hurt one bit when they took them out.  They are just like staples that you would put up paper on a bulletin board.  they dont bend over like they would if you stapled paper together.

So asked your OB ahead of time what he uses and see if your OB would use something other than staples.

  • I did not have staples either times but from what I understand, they are not huge deal, just an alternative to stitches. ?You feel nothing either way (during the procedure). ?You literally feel NOTHING.
  • Not all Dr's do staples, but some do. I've had two sections and two different Dr's, neither of mine did staples so I'm not sure how common they are. I have had friends that have had staples and they didn't have any complications with them... I'd think if you talked to your Dr. and told him/her that you don't want staples they would do stitches for you instead or you could always get a different Dr if yours only does staples....
  • Well, I don't want to scare you, but I hate staples.  I was kinda upset after c/s #2 when I realized I had staples.  I'd had staples for a previous surgery years before and thought they were painful.  The dr said she had to do it though because I had a lot of scar tissue from c/s #1.  I think they make the incision more painful but they do not hurt too much to remove.  Just a pinch at most.  I was much happier with them out than in!
  • I had staples the first time and stitches the second. Couldn't tell the difference.

  • I have had 2 sections adn staples both times. You can't feel them going in and the first time they were taken out I was still in the hospital and they did it the day I went home-no pain. The second time I had to have them in longer as is standard so I went to the office a few days after I was released from the hospital and again there was no pain!
  • I didn't have any staples or anything!
  • I didn't even know I had staples until they came to remove them, and I didn't feel that at all. I'm allergic to the material they use for stitches, so I had to have staples, apparently.

  • My friend who just had a c-section had to have staples because she had an allergic reaction to the stitches.

I had dissolvable stitches.  I think what you get depends on the doctor and your personal circumstances.

  • I was SOO freaked out about the staples as well.  I never felt them.  I nursed DS while the OB removed them and I never felt a thing.
  • My OB said that i would be getting dissolvable stitches- unless there was some sort of emergency that they needed the OR for, then it would be staples- b/c they save about 10-15 minutes of time by doing staples instead of stitches.

he said the only real benefit to the stitches is that you don't have to have them taken out- but that neither leaves a worse scar and that removing them doesn't hurt.

  • I didn't have staples or stiches.  I had glue.  Ask if your Dr. uses it.  I thought it was great.  It just kind of peeled away slowly.
