making own moby

This is something I really want to do and have been looking for the right fabric. Cajun, you said you got fabric for $1 a yard. Where did you find it and what kind is it? I went to a Joann fabric store and the stretchy stuff was 14.99 a yd. Am I looking at the wrong stuff or in the wrong places? Any help would be appreciated.

  • I'm curious about this, too! And, if you can make one out of a plain cotton (non-jersey). It is getting hot and I hate that the doubling over of the Moby fabric makes it so hot, but I won't take scissors to it because I'm afraid that is what makes it so supportive.

*sigh* I should probably just go get some plain cotton and cut it to 1/2 the width and see if it works.

Let me know how yours turn out if you make them!!!

  • i got mine from hancocks yesterday. i just happened to find a super lightweight cotton jersey on clearance. it's not the prettiest fabric, but it'll work just fine. i'm in the process of making mine (ie i need to get off my lazy butt and finish cutting it), so when i'm finished i'll post pics!
  • How much did you buy? I think the moby site says 6 yds but that seems like a lot but what do I know?
  • well i bout 7 bc i'm a bit larger, so i wanted to have more fabric to wrap around my waist. i'd say 5 or 6 would be fine.
