Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Ughhhh, I feel horrible!!!

I really don't know why I judge myself so much but I can't help it.  I'm ready to bathe DD every single hour.  She sweats so much and we keep the air conditioning at 74 during the day (We live in Florida). Anyway, we bathed her last night.  This morning, her hands smell like hell because she clenches them and they sweat and I noticed a bit of gunk in her neck folds.  I was VERY careful to wash her neck last night.  I feel like a horrible mother.  As if I'm missing parts when I bathe her.  ARGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do other people's babies sweat this much also?

Re: Ughhhh, I feel horrible!!!

  • Awww, don't be so hard on yourself.  Babies get gunky so easily! We live in Chicago, so it's not warm yet. DD never used to sweat, but DS sweats all the time and it has only been kinda warm a few days this year. I hate to see what will happen when it gets really hot later on this summer! All you can do is bathe them every night when it's warm out, and keep them in lightweight breathable, natural fabrics like 100% cotton.  I try to keep my kids in the shade as much as possible, and of course sublock, but we live on the beach so it is nearly impossible to stay out of the sun all the time.

  • Don't beat yourself up! You're not a horrible mother. Babies just need a lot of baths, especially when it's hot. Not your fault at all!

I used to notice stuff in DDs neck folds too.  I started putting either Aquaphor or California Baby diaper cream on her neck after a bath, and it's a good barrier.  Then she grew a neck.  :)  I still put one of those on her neck, and it's helped a lot.  She doesn't have the sweating thing, but I'm sure you're doing a great job since you're worried about it!  DD LOVES putting her hands under the faucet so I can wash them after she pets the dog...maybe you can just do that when she wakes up?  Good luck!

Thanks you guys.  I feel better but at this point I want to keep her under a shower all day. LOL.  Yeah, it's really hot and humid here in Miami.  She inherited this sweating problem from DH.  He sweats in 34 degree weather!!!!
