Random vent. Stellas' post reminded me of something MIL said when I first went back to work. She stayed home with DH while FIL was in grad school, so they had very little money. In fact, they were so poor she said she always made sure to give BIL 25 cents for milk at school because sometimes they couldn't afford to buy milk at home. But she stayed home anyway, for 5 years. She told me this story in the context of "you could afford to stay home if you really wanted to" lecture. I looked at her and said "Am I supposed to want to stay home so badly that we can't afford to feed our children? Um, no." Thankfully I went back to work, even though I missed DD terribly (and at times still do). And a year later, DH has been unemployed for 7 months from a layoff. So yeah, I'm pretty happy with my decision to return to work. Bite me, MIL!

Ugh - I can't believe she was judging you. Not work for 5 years while they practically had nothing to eat? Sorry but that's pretty freaking lazy.
My SIL judged me which is ironic because she was a SAHM for 7 years - her hubby was a school bus driver (they don't make much) and they lived on public assistance all this time.
