Baby teeth discoloration

DD's top 4 teeth are very white at the tips and then a gray (?) white for the rest of the tooth. They've been like this from the moment they cut. One yr checkup was yesterday and guess what I forgot to ask about??!!! Anyone have the same issue and know what it might be?

Dude-- what you describe is EXACTLY what DS had. I was concerned so I scheduled an appt w/a pediatric dentist.. and guess what it was?? PLAQUE! Yup. On my 14 mt old. And we DO brush his teeth every night (now we do it 2x daily).. she just said some babies are esp prone to buildup and there's no explanation.. so she scraped it all off and now they are pearly white from top to bottom. he was scared at first (was laying down across our laps) but then stopped once he realized it didn't hurt. I recommend checking it out - couldn't hurt.

  • Plaque? When I say they've been like this from the time they cut, I'm not exaggerating though. Seriously, they cut white and once they distended a millimeter or two the tooth was already a grayer color. Is this still similar to your situation? If so, I'd love to know how plaque can be there from 6mos on when 95% of thier diet is bm/formula!

yup - same scenario..  I kept putting off the appt for the same reasons as you, like 'how in the world?!?' and I even called a ton first and just asked them and they all (but the one I went to) said 'oh yeeeah, that's normal, tooth coloring can vary!'.. but something still didn't seem right to me.

Plaque can build up from all the sugars left on the teeth from their milk. Milk has sugar in it..   Plus the whole thing of being more prone to it than others..  All I'm sayin' is that I WATCHED her scrape off plaque and now they're bright white top to bottom! And we brush him MUCH more diligently now.

  • I just made an appointment for next week. I'm relieved to find out what's going on!! Thank you for sharing your experience, you may have saved us some dental health issues!

  • DD's teeth had started to turn grayish.  I brushed them 1 or 2 times per week, but apparently for her that is not enough.  I have to brush daily for them to stay pearly white.  I have problem-prone teeth myself so maybe she inherited that from me. :(

It really could be stains/plaque for your DD.
