If your dc used Nutramigen and you switched to Milk, how did you do it. I have been mixing it together for 2 weeks b/c we wanted to go slowly to see if there was any reaction. Now I am mixing 3 oz formula, 4 oz milk and he is starting to refuse to drink it. Should I just go ahead and do all milk now or keep doing it slowly. I just feel like if he is pushing it away now I might as well be doing all milk so he eventually gets used to it. FWIW, I have 4 small cans of formula left so that is not an issue.
Re: Nutramigen formula to Milk-opinions wanted
DD was on Alimentum, which is the Similac version of Nutramigen. I started off mixing like you did, and eventually she stopped wanting to drink it. She never drank large quantities out of a bottle (maybe 4-5 oz. tops) but when it was more than half milk she didn't want it. I started giving just milk, and she was fine with that. Since you have formula left, maybe do the ratio that she will drink for most of her feedings and try to do one feeding of all milk? I think it's kind of a trial and error thing. She also drank the milk better out of a sippy cup than a bottle.
Good luck!
Why was your DS on Nutramigen? Did your pedi tell you to go to whole milk? Just wondering b/c it seems a bit odd.
My DS is severly lactose intolerant. He was on Nutramigen starting at 8 weeks and did not stop drinking it until we got off bottles at 1 year. We went directly to rice milk. I can't imagine going from Nutramigen to whole milk.......but maybe his issues aren't as bad??
If you are going to whole milk, I would definitely be doing it slowly so that his stomach gets used to the dairy. Has he been more gassy and/or had poop issues lately? If so, maybe the milk is upsetting his stomach and that's why he is pushing it away???
Sorry I don't have more advice........what did your pedi say to do? I get the "go for it all" mentality b/c I am a firm believer of that. But, if you are going straight from Nutramigen to whole milk, I would go pretty slow since its such a big change.
GL!
Ds was put on Nutramigen per pedi recommendation b/c of blood in his stool at 3 months when I quit BF. His pedi said he always suggests trying MILK first to make sure he hasn't grown out of the allergy. He would rather us try milk first, so this is what we are doing. He has been on part milk for 2 weeks with no reactions thus far! yay! Ds was never officially tested for a milk allergy just suspected it b/c of blood in his stool and rash on face and chest.
We mixed the Nutramigen with whole milk for two days and then went to straight milk. She never had any problems with it. She is not much of a milk drinker, so she doesn't have much in any given day.
