Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Wahooo!! he asked to pee potty!

Jace has always asked or signaled to poop on the potty and done a good job of it but pee has been a different story ever since I went back to work when he was 6 months old. ?The nanny just wasn't as proactive about it as I would have liked.

Tonight he asked to "pee potty" not once but TWICE!

He's almost there!

The diapers are coming off once I'm home full time in another couple of weeks!?

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • Wow, that's really early! I don't even know when I'm going to start potty training!

  • Not to be rude but you started trying to potty train him at 6 months?  I plan on starting with my daughter as soon as school is out and I will only be babysitting at my house and I am getting slack for that from grandparents.  I can't imagine at 6 months.

  • HE ASKED AGAIN ?THIS MORNING!!!

Wow. ?I'm beyond thrilled with this!

    ?

And actually we started with him at 3 months. ?It's called elimination communication.

We were training Dylan and using a book called "Early Start Potty Training".

The book talked about how other cultures start training basically from birth (not many diapers in remote undeveloped areas of the world). ?They're physically capable at a very early age. ?Mothers learn their babies cues put them on a potty just before they eliminate.

??I figured "we're in the bathroom all the time anyway.... why not try putting him on". ?I was stunned when he peed on it within 20 seconds of the first time I put him on (right after a nap - they usually need to pee right after waking up).

I know..... it sounds beyond crazy. ?I'm not a tree hugger and no one was more surprised by me doing this with him than I was but hey... fewer diapers? ?Not having to wipe poop off his butt? ? I was all about that!?

?I figured I'd still have to do regular potty training stuff with him around this age but at this rate we may be able to skip the whole "day of being wet in underwear until he figures it out" part! ?God knows I'd love that!!!
