Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Is anyone familiar with the Columbus, OH airport?

I am flying to Columbus tomorrow to visit my sister.  My flight is scheduled to land at 4:30 but I am stuck waiting around the airport with Zachary until 6:30 when my parents' flight comes in from Florida.

I'm going to have to cross the security checkpoint after the flight to pick up my checked bag, so I'm not able to wait in the terminal where there is plenty of seating.  Is there anywhere decent to hang out with Zachary while we're waiting?  I'm going to be dragging around a huge suitcase full of baby clothes for my sis and Zachary's car seat, so I'm not going to be able to go too far...  I'm also not planning on bringing a stroller - just our baby carrier backpack.

I'm starting to get nervous - Zachary is such a busy boy these days!  I'm just crossing my fingers that my parents' flight isn't delayed...

  • I can't remember what exactly they have once you're outside the secure area. ?But I'll bet that if you can find a seat somewhere Zachary will be fine. Our daughter LOVES to just people watch. ?And certainly someone will stop and chat with him (it always happens - especially in the midwest). I'll bet your little guy will surprise you. ? ?Good luck and have fun! ?

  • There isn't a lot of seating outside of the terminal, like you said. Depending on the hours of the restaurants there, you might be able to go to one of those to hang out. There is a waiting area close to the baggage claim - I've had to wait there numerous times for people when I've picked them up, as you can't just drive up and park right there anymore. I remember that there's some seating in that area, and your DS would probably enjoy watching the baggage claim area (I know DD loves it). HTH
  • I'm from Columbus. The airport is somewhat small, so there really is not a lot to see or do. There's a food court, and a Max and Erma's, plus a few small shops (Bath and Body Works, Cheryl's Cookies, ect... Columbus based businesses.)

There is lots of room in the baggage claim area, too, and a pretty decent sized family restroom down there.

  • Thanks ladies!  Keep your fingers crossed for me that Zachary stays happy while we're waiting :)
  • I forgot to mention... Columbus has free wifi :)
  • We were just there yesterday, with a flight that was delayed, and let me tell you there is basically nothing to entertain a toddler!

As someone else mentioned, once you leave the gate area there's a Max & Erma's - basically the only restaurant option in the airport - and a tiny food court a few small shops.

If I were you, I'd see if your airline will take pity on you and hold your bag for a couple of hours so that you can roam around the airport with DS.
