Hmmmm thats a tough one. My mom uses a service and she tips them enough for the three girls to get lunch. Im just not sure about this one. Haha! I do all the cleaning around here, darn it! Wish I could talk hubby into a monthly deep clean.

I do believe the rule of thumb is you don't tip the "owners" and your cleaning person sounds like that. She set her own price, and employee of hers would likely just get an hourly rate and then a tip would be okay.
When we used a service we did tip. Now that we pay the cleaning woman directly, we don't tip.
We do, however, give her a bonus equal to one weeks' pay at holiday time and will give her a little extra on days she stays much longer than we've agreed to. Also, if we cancel on her without notice - like we did this weekend when we were out of town and I forgot to tell her until the day before - we'll still pay her for the week. It only seems fair since she's counting on the $$.
My MIL cleans houses for a living and she is her own boss and as far as I know none of the clients she works for tip her. The only time she gets a little extra is around Christmas. Hope that helps.
