anyone else have a baby that won't sleep??

I thought I had it hard when my DD was a newborn.  Now that my son is here, I'm about ready to go out of my mind!  I cannot put this kid down to sleep.  I'm about ready to just let him cry it out, but he's only 3.5 weeks old.  Last night he fought my husband when he tried to get him to sleep on his chest while I got at least 3 hours of sleep.  He nursed and slept for one hour in the snuggle nest - but only with my hand on him.  Then he nursed again and wouldn't go down for anything - we tried the pacifier and swaddling him in the snuggle nest in our bed, putting him on our chests, putting him in the bassinet with the vibration on.  He started to close his eyes when I stood up and rocked with him, but as soon as I stopped he started screaming again.  I tried the swing, but he only was quiet for a short time with his eyes wide open - then he started to scream.  I nursed him and he started to fall asleep in my arms, but as soon as I put him down, he screamed again.  Right now he is in his pack and play crying off and on - he's so tired - his eyes keep fluttering, but he's fighting it.  I don't know what to do.

  • I feel your pain.  We are dealing with a similar situation.  I wish I had the answer to the problem, but I am afraid we have tried many things to no avail (swing, swaddling, etc, etc).  Have your tried a car seat?  That seemed to help for a few nights (until he grew fussy in that as well) and allowed us to get a few hours of sleep.

It seems that time is the only solution to the problem and every night I am hoping that he magically decides to settle down a bit.  Good luck and let me know if you find something that works!

  • right there with you....I cry at night because of it.  He will sleep on me (when he does fall asleep) but forget putting him down!  I don't have advice, just letting you know you are not alone.

You're definitely not alone.  I feel like we've tried everything (swing, bouncy seat, carseat, PNP bassinet, crib, swaddling, white noise) and the child just will not sleep at night.  He sleeps like a perfect angel during the day, but we definitely need to work on the nighttime sleeping.

  • Glad to hear I am not alone.  It's tough when it seems like everyone else I know can feed their baby, rock them for a minute and put them down for hours of sleep.  I'm fighting my baby to go down to sleep at all - day or night.  He will sleep if held, but mostly resists being put down in anything.  I've decided that I will get him used to his crib if it kills me.  Today I actually got him swaddled and down for 2 hours for his afternoon nap.  My 2 year old took two hours as well - heaven!  Of course that was after fighting the morning nap - he did 3 sets of like 10 minutes max before I gave up.  I guess time will be the best help here.
