AF feels like labor pains...normal?

So, I thought for sure I was pregnant this month. I knew when I ovulated and there is no way the little guys couldn't find their way. Anyway, I started spotting and thought it was implantation bleeding because it was 8 days before I was expecting my period. So two days of spotting and AF is here...very early. It woke me up in the middle of the night when it came and I thought I was in labor. It was so painful, and even in my back...kind of around the kidney area. I honestly felt exactly how I did when I was in early labor. Is that normal? I told my OB this and she didn't even blink. I have never heard friends tell me theirs was this bad. It feels like something in my low back is going to explode.

I am just tired of trying month after month to get pregnant...and month after month I get these horribly painful, very heavy periods. I went from a 36 day cycle to a 32 day cycle for a few months and now AF is here on day 28. I feel like there is some other issue but my OB thinks I am crazy for even coming to see her until we've been trying for a year (which is 4 cycles away). Sorry...any AF help/advice would be appreciated.

I had gawd-awful periods before I had DD. I haven't had one since 8/07 so I have no idea what a PP period is like.

But, I remember thinking that my contractions felt just like my worst cramps (well, the early contractions anyway). So it seems like it wouldn't be that far fetched for your period to feel like labor, kwim?

My most recent AF was awful.  I did think it felt like I was in labor.  I took 600 mg of ibuprofen and had a heat pack on me, and it still hurt so much I couldn't sleep.  My periods have been irregular and I've been having really short cycles, but I'm still nursing DD so that might explain that part.  Anyway, I don't think it's totally unusual but I hope you get a BFP soon!
