My son was sick 2 weeks ago with a cough - no fever- but given steroid for croup. The cough has been lingering on but very loose and productive and then today he woke up with a runny nose and woke up from his 2nd nap with a fever. We took his temp and the rectal temp said 102!!!
We freaked out and paged our doctor. He called back and said to give Motrin (which we already had) per the recommended dosage and to give him a spoonful of Children's Zyrtec to dry up the cough.
He said he sees 10 babies a day with temps that high and it's ususally viral and that the runny nose is probably causing the cough (from the drip) and that the Zyrtec should help with that.
He said if he doesn't seem better to bring him in tomorrow morning. Even after the motrin he's still at 101...I feel bad. Does this sound right? Never heard of giving a baby zyrtec...thought syrups were a no no...
Re: Children's Zyrtec for 10 month old?
Zyrtec is for allergies. So I'm confused.
We had a pedi prescribe DS zyrtec when he was 5 months old for allerigic skin issues. We only gave it to him a few times. I did a lot of research and the typical side effect is digestive upset.
Thanks ladies, your posts made me feel better. I went ahead and gave it to him and he went down to sleep...poor guy was so tired.
I haven't heard him cough one bit either in the almost 2 hours he's been up there.
