I just called the cops on our neighbors

They're lighting off fireworks across the street (illegal in this state), and it's almost 11:00 at night. The damn things are so loud, and they woke up DS, plus I don't want them to start a fire. The dispatcher said they'd send someone over to check it out -- I can't tell exactly which house is doing it -- we just moved here, and the houses are all really close together, and there's a ton of people in the street. I gave my name and address on the phone, but I told them I didn't want them to know who it was that called. Do you think they can find out who called? Am I jerk for calling?

It's not like it's the freaking 4th of July -- I expect fireworks on that day, illegal or not.

I don't think you're a jerk for calling at all.  I am not sure if they can find out who called, but my thought is if you said you wanted to remain anonymous, then you probably will.

It's pretty annoying, but around here in my area - every holiday calls for fireworks. It's illegal here too, I got used to it.

I would have called, too. And no, the cops won't reveal who called. In all likelihood, the cop sent to your call won't know who called - they just get called to the location.

OMG I so could have written this post.....just give me 5 minutes.  They have been at it here for over an hour.  Loud ones too and DD is sleeping.  I told DH the same thing about it not being 4th of July.  I'm all for parties and don't mind fireworks but there needs to be a time limit - it's almost 11 pm here!  I'm pretty sure the cops won't tell who called.

As long as you didn't call the HOA, I think your fine :-) ?Our old neighbors would shoot off fireworks because someone sneezed. ?It got really old, really fast. ?esp with sleeping kids and a barking dog.

It's annoying when you have a sleeping kid.  It's illegal in a lot of states.  I expect it on the 4th but I hate when they do it for nothing.  It used to make me really mad when we lived with my mom because her dog was terrified of them.  We had to nearly sedate her just because the neighbors wanted to do something illegal.

The "law" in our township is 11 pm = quiet time.  As for fireworks, not much is legal here in MI but most everyone does it.  I think they can actually get a "permit" to have certain ones.  They don't do it all the time...just a few holidays so I've gotten used to it.  The kids have always slept through it.  I guess they figure it is like thunder which they also sleep through.
