Just looking for opinions, my friends and family do not agree on what I should do...
Background: I have been told by my boss that I will be gone if I do not get my revenue #'s up. On top of this, I was also told that he has gotten complaints about me from several people (even though I am in the office only 2 days/wk), and there is a girl here who has made no secret that she wants my job, who I am certain made the complaint. My boss likes and believes her, and told me I am negative, unapproachable, and basically need to change how others perceive me, or I will be gone.
So, what would you do?

Re: Clicky Work Poll
How is the job market for your field? That makes a difference in how I'd respond. Collecting unemployment would clearly be better than no paycheck at all!
Ooooh I hadn't even thought about that. But me, I'd be like "If I'm so negative, then here's something for ya...stick it up your arse! I QUIT!!"
?
I know what you mean - but the job market sucks so bad right now, I would worried about having no money rolling in.?
It is not good. I am actually tired of outside sales, and want to do something else. I am looking for an inside sales position (nonexistent here), or to work for the state or possibly be an administrative or executive assistant.
I am leaning toward letting them fire me, I just really hate to give that girl the satisfaction of successfully runniing me off. But, I don't hate it enough to not collect unemployment.
In this economy, I don't think I could quit a job without having another one lined up first. I think this would apply no matter how miserable I was, but if you and your husband can swing it financially on just his income, quitting for your own well-being might be worth it to you.
But if I knew I was likely going to be fired anyway, I'd probably wait it out just to be eligible for unemployment.
And...start looking for a new job now. Hopefully you'll find something before they fire you.
I am already actively looking for a job. I had an interview last week, but no dice on that one.
I am going to take off a day next week to submit more applications with the state and county, as well as visit every staffing agency in town.
LMAO....I will definintely do that, no way I am going to cry about losing this sh*tbrick of a job!
?
So true! Who knows, they may be trying to get you to quit so they don't have to fire you...?
I like this idea! ?Keep looking for a new job. ?I would put on a happy face if you can and just hang in there. ?I have been at terrible jobs before. ?It will work out! ?Good luck!?
This happened to my mom. They convinced her to resign and she got totally screwed.
That sounds about right.
Yeah, I will definitely do that. I am going to stick it out and get fired, I suppose. Thanks ladies for the advice!
I had a horrible coworker like this and got the same speech that I was mean from my line manager (something I've never had a problem with or been told by a boss ever) and I just had to ignore the bitchy coworker and kill her with kindness.
I ended up applying for and getting the job I have now and making way more money anyway so I got to blow that popsicle stand...
it's called a kilt, he's scottish
Thats awesome Mel! That is inspiring to me- hopefully, there is something perfect for me too.
this.
Clearly, if money is an issue, then you need to collect unemployment right now.
If it's not as big of an issue, I can see more benefit to quitting. When you do interview for another job and they ask why you left, telling them that you took the initiative to leave a poor work environment is much better then saying you were fired but it was really, really bad and when they call your old boss he dumps all those bad adjectives on you and it looks like maybe you were just bitter about being fired? Just my two cents only knowing what you've posted.
Now we're waiting on our miracle baby ... a little GIRL!!!
This exactly.
this. also, if you show that you are making an effort to do what he asks, you might not have to worry about getting fired at all... so there is that option as well.
You might want to double check the unemployment requirements for your state. Where I am, you generally only get unemployment if you're laid off, not if you're fired or quit. So before you make your decision, you should do more research.
Oh, and that totally sucks, sorry you have to deal with asshat co-worker and boss. I've been in the same situation and I quit. It wasn't worth it to stay at that point.
