I am going crazy, my child is SOOO farking active. It's all I can do to get a diaper on him and dressed sometimes. He squirms and spins and struggles and is in constant motion. He flaps his arms and legs like a bird, and tries to crawl away. I put him in his crib and he jumps up and down and basically acts like a miniature maniac. In his high chair, he pulls his bib off, and waves it like a flag until he's out of breath, then goes again.
Just went to the pedi today for his 1 year appt and he was *all* over the place. The thing is he doesn't walk yet, so I have to hold him all the time while he squirms away, or hold his hands while he walks. It's exhausting. He's in the 20th percentile for weight because he basically is doing calisthenics all day long.
The pedi's not worried or anything like that, I just had to vent because I am so worn down by him. He almost never is still. It's pretty remarkable actually.
Does anyone else have a child like this? And how do you cope? Most of my mom friends around here have chill little babes.
Re: VENT: Anyone else have a tasmanian devil on their hands? (long)
Yes. He can trash the house in under 10 minutes.
I babyproofed and I just let him go. The upside is that when he's ready for a nap, he crashes and sleeps for a loooong time.
I had to laugh at your post. My DD is like that, but she can walk. And run. She climbs the furniture, yanks on the blinds, can almost open our screen door, gets things she's not supposed to and takes off running. She's definitely a character.
I do my best to keep the parts of the house she gets into childproof so that I'm chasing her less. I take her to the park or outside to run around and work some off. Sometimes we go to friend's houses so their LOs can help wear her down. The babies I know her age are totally chill, so she plays with the 2-3 year olds. LOL
Just wanted to say, I feel your pain. Two good things about it: she's a quick learner, very curious and (i think) pretty smart for her age. Also, she's quite entertaining if you can manage to just relax and let her go.
Tonight she ran around with a towel over her head bonking into things, falling on her butt and cracking up laughing for a good 20 minutes.
I wish we could get these 2 together to play. As long as adam doesn't teach her how to smear the dog and couch with poo.
I am in your spot 100%. DS doesn't walk. I can't take him anywhere for long at all anymore b/c he wants to get down adn crawl in public places. Uh, sorry dude. SO he screams and I end up holding a sideways baby. We form a right angle.
I avoided cabinet locks, but we need them not for him, but for me. For my sanity. My house is awful- and I'm a clean freak.
I call him my choo choo train because he goes and goes nonstop. DH was wondering what his naps are considered if he's "always going," and I say they are his stops at the train station. Then he's back up and running. Ha.
Thank you! I guess I just have to laugh because what else can I do? While we were at the dr's office today, my LO wanted to crawl all over the linoleum floor (yuck!) and since I didn't let him, I was holding a squirming, spinning squeaking baby!! Oh well. He is VERY curious and I suppose that's a good thing. He's into everything.
I do feel better knowing I'm not alone
Yes, Ben is just like this. And he's been walking for 4 months now. He started walking and then within a week or so, was running. I'm not kidding. He's into everything, terrorizes the cats, has started hitting, biting and pinching. He also loves to grab handfuls of cat food and throw them across the kitchen or dump all their water on the floor. He's exhausting. But he's really funny and is constantly making us laugh.
I have a 15 year old and she was the polar opposite of him. She was so content to sit and play with her toys or look at books forever. If I can get Ben to sit on my lap long enough to get through one or two books, it's a freaking miracle.
I just go along with it and correct/redirect him when he's doing something he isn't supposed to be. I don't really see what the other option is. I can't make him a different way.
same here.....BTW, thanks for the new nickmame... we were calling DS the tornado but I like Taz better! DS runs and runs and runs....non stop!!!! I should be a size 0 with all the running this kid does!
We spend a lot of time in the yard so he can just chase the dog. In the house, we super childproofed 2 rooms so he can roam free.
After he goes to bed, it takes forever to clean up the diasters he's made. You blink and he's trashed the place....the other day I forgot to put the tissues up high and left the living room for 2 minutes...came back and it had snowed tissues...DS pulled them out and then helped the dog shred them!!!!!
He hated his stoller but then we got him that red car with the blue handle by step 2....loves sitting in there are going for walks...it's been a godsend!!!!!
