If you find a link to the heavy metal shoe stuff, I'd be interested. ?I know I have read that, but I don't know where.
I found a webmd guest blog by Laura Dern but am not finding credible stuff on google.
Maybe I'll look through my library's e-resource gateway?
Re: *praline*
Well, I'm on a listserv at work and someone sent a link out a while ago (actually about a year ago) and I was really shocked. I didn't think it would make that much difference, but appearantly most lead dust in homes is tracked in from soil...not necessarily a big deal for adults, but more worrisome for small children on the floor. I saved it, but it's in my work email, which I don't have access to.
However it seems like it might be the same thing referred to in that Laura Dern web blog...a 1991 study by the EPA or SPOA showing that you can reduce tracking in pesticides and lead by removing your shoes. They are referring to the "Door Mat" study. It makes sense and it just seems like a no brainer to me...I don't insist guests take their shoes off but we do and we are here the most....
I just didn't think Laura Dern would pack a credibility punch on here
?
Ha! That's true. But what Laura Dern refers to in that Web MD blog is an EPA study. The EPA has also contracted with Batelle to do studies on pesticide tracking in homes. I remember this from the info too, and it is pretty yucky.
For me it was persuasive evidence, especially since taking our shoes off is no big deal.
ETA: I'm not a germaphobe at all...quite the, uh, opposite based on my house and we have cats so DD gets herself dosed with pet dander every day. Chemicals and lead though...that stuff does get me worried....
