My dad has cancer

My dad had surgery today to remove a lump or something from his lung, and then do something else (not completely sure what all was supposed to be done) But anyway, they come back to my mom and I after a fairly short period of time and tell us that they didn't complete the 2nd part of the surgery, they did the lung thing and the spot came back cancerous.

I don't even know what to do w/ this info. More than likely it's lung cancer, could be lymphoma. He isn't a smoker....he's only 48yrs old. Results are supposed to come back from pathology on Tuesday. Then on Thursday, it's off to the cancer docs to decide the next course of action.

I know it can be treated, probably. But...it's my dad. This isn't supposed to happen to my dad. I know that's not a logical thought to have, it can happen to anyone...but, I don't know.

I just needed to get that out there. Thanks for listening.

  • I'm sorry. I thought my dad had cancer last year, and I had the same thoughts.

You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
  • I'm sorry.  Let's pray that they caught it early.
  • I'm sorry. I hope that his treatment goes well.

It's never easy, though. My mom had colon cancer 10 years ago, and that was hard. She's fine now, though!

  • I am so sorry.  My heart goes out to you and your family.  I will keep my thoughts and prayers with your dad and family.  I hope they caught it early and that he becomes a cancer survivor.

I know exactly what you mean when you say it "isn't supposed to happen to my dad".  It did happen to my dad and I felt the same way.  My dad was 50 when he was diagnosed.

  • Oh sweetie, I'm so sorry.  I'm going through the same thing with one of my best friends, and I said the EXACT same thing last night: cancer happens to OTHER people!

Sending vibes that it's easily curable!!!!!

  • I'm so sorry!

  • Thanks ladies. Its such a weird thing to realize your dad isn't invincible, ya know? I mean, I am almost 30 years old and it's just sort of surreal.

  • (((hugs)))  I'm so sorry.  I freaking hate cancer.  At my school alone, we're on our third person to get breast cancer in the past 5 years, and we have it on both sides of my family, too.  I hope they caught it early with your dad and that he recovers fully, but it just sucks that he (and his family) has to go through the treatment and the stress and everything.

your family is in my prayers.?

  • I'm so sorry!  Best wishes to you and your dad.
  • I am so sorry. Lots of good thoughts and hugs your way....
  • I was going to say the same thing you already said, when my Dad got leukemia I couldn't believe it.  Not my Dad, he's invincible, he's going to be here forever!  Well, at least until he's old.  His Dad lived until 93!!

I really hope they got it early and he has a quick recovery!  good luck to you and your family!

I am so sorry about your dad.

I know exactly how you feel because I said the same thing when my mom was told she had breast cancer in Sept. 2007.
