curious about your opinions: name

I know its premature since we don't know the sex yet, but, we have had a very difficult time with coming up with a boy name that we both like. (already decided on a girls name - Charlotte Olivia)

Anyway, we both LOVE the name Ethan, but we want to use DH's middle name..its kind of a tradition and has been handed down its also my father's middle name

Problem: its Allen....Ethan Allen

what do you think

If Allen was the last name I would probably steer clear of the name Ethan, but being the middle name I think its ok. FWIW, I would be questioning it just like you!

That would just be mean! Our last name rhymes w/cakes. I really wanted to name a son Rhys (pronounced Rice) but the poor kid would go around life being known as Rice Cakes.

I really wanted to name Zachary "Ethan", but I was set on using my father's name as his middle name, which is Allen. Even though most people will never know a person's middle name, I think it's just too much. It's such a shame because Ethan Allen sounds great together! I couldn't bring myself to use that name though...

I like Ethan, but I wouldn't do that to my kid. One baby name book I have (The Baby Name Wizard) lists similar-style names in groups. According to this book, names that have the same appeal as Ethan are: Caleb, Isaac, Dylan, Jonah, and Mason. HTH!

Ditto. It's not like he will walk around being called Ethan Allen his whole life. Most people won't even know his middle name as he grows up.

they went out of business around us....don't know if the whole chain is on it's way out but I don't see it being a problem.

p.s. ethan allen is a famous person in history...not just a chain

I think expensive furniture. But since middle names aren't used much it iasn't as big of a deal. I still probably wouldn't do it though.

Rhys is actually the Welsh spelling of the name "Reese," as in peanut butter deliciousness. So your last name wouldn't be a problem, but Rhys Cups would be mean.
