Bad hearing or just ignoring me?

I?m almost starting to worry about DS hearing. But I?m not sure if his hearing is bad or if he?s just ignoring me!  If he?s playing with a toy or looking out the window or anything else he?s concentrating on, I can almost scream his name and he doesn?t flitch. But other times he seems like he hears me just fine and looks when I call his name. Is he just that good at ignoring me (I thought this didn?t start until the teenage years!) or is this something I should get checked out?

  • I vote for ignoring. Adam ignores me too. If I say milk or the name of his lovey, he whips is head around. Otherwise.... forget it!

  • sounds like selective hearing to me! ;) DD does the same thing. Does he react to loud noises usually, or seem to hear you most of the time? If so, I wouldn't worry about it.

  • I would just wait for his next appointment and ask about it. My DD ignores us all the time. She's too busy doing what she's doing at the moment.

Maddie does this too.  She can't be bothered to look from playing most of the time.
  • My DD is excellent at ignoring me. The other day we were at my mom's and she was playing. I called her name half a dozen times and she refused to look up. Then my mom said her name and she looked up and grinned. She knows exactly what she's doing.

  • DD ignores me if there's something she's more interested in.  Otherwise her hearing seems to be perfectly fine.

My DS is the King of selective listening.  I can say his name 40x's and he will ignore me.  His hearing has been tested recently (b/c of tubes) so I know he can hear me.  They are very good at it at this age!!  If you are still concerned, mention it to your pedi next time.  I'm sure they have some tricks to tell if there is an issue that might need to be looked into further!  GL!
