Taxi to the airport with no carseat?

I'm trying to schedule a car service to the airport tomorrow for our trip. I called the limo company that had quoted me a rate. As I'm telling him that we have two adults and a toddler with a carseat, he says they can't allow carseats in their vehicles. Says they would damage the seats. Is this crazy? I mean wouldn't that be illegal then?

I just said, 'well, I'll have to call you back'. I'm actually trying to track down the number of the guy I usually use. Lost the dang business card. I like the company and always trusted this guy and was a little leary about going elsewhere. So now I'm putting more effort into finding someone with his number. I'm hoping that works out.

Otherwise, would you really take a taxi without a carseat? Is this what people do in the city? We're in the suburbs so going to the airport is a good 45m ride.

  • I would never do that.  We're taking a shuttle next week from the airport to our hotel and we will be using the car seat.  The shuttle service (super shuttle) said people use car seats all the time with them.

  • No, I wouldn't.  I'd definitely look for someone else.

We used a shuttle service to and from the Philly airport (30 minute drive) when we went to California last year.  It was a different driver each way and they didn't say anything about us having a carseat (I did make sure to mention we had one when I scheduled this).  If they told me we couldn't use it, I would have called a different company.

Thanks ladies. I thought there's no way in he!! I'm letting someone drive us anywhere without a carseat. Good to know that's the norm.

  • It is legal... but I would never consider it.  Try Super Shuttle or I would take you car and anti up the parking fee.  Safety is worth it.

  • We always use a park and ride service to our airport, and I felt like such an idiot when we took DS on his first plane trip, I had EVERYTHING planned out and packed except the 5 minute ride on the shuttle bus from the parking lot to the airport.  We had the carseat, but they were these platic bucket seats with no seatbelts so we couldn't strap it down anywhere.  It was the MOST heart wrenching 5 minute ride of my life - the bus goes on the highway for about a mile and I just sat there praying and clutching DS the entire time.  I felt like the worst mother int he world.  Needless-to-say, on the way home, DH wrote the shuttle to the lot, got the car and came to get us.  We had to wait around the terminal for a half an hour, but I there was no way in he!! I was going to put DS in that position again.  So my advice is definitely don't ride in any vehicle w/o a carseat - I'd see if a friend can give you guys a ride...
