I can totally understand how people get addicted to prescription painkillers.

I had a c-section on Monday, and I'm still in a good bit of pain. ?I thought I could manage it with just Motrin, but I gave in and started taking Percocet. ?Wow. ?It's more than just a painkiller. ?An hour ago I was on the verge of an emotional meltdown thinking about the chaos that awaits me when I get home from the hospital. ?Now I'm giddy with excitement just thinking about my older boys welcoming their baby brother home. ?Now I see why people refer to them as happy pills. ?:)

  • I consider Vicodin to be the silver lining to surgery.

  • Congrats on your new addition!

I took Percocet after both of my c-sections. After DD#2 I had stopped taking it for like a week and then I kind of overdid things one day and decided to take one and whoa - I felt like I was on a different planet!

  • Congrats on your baby.  I wasn't given ANY pain killers unless they were in the IV which they took out the following morning.  They didn't even offer me Tylenol!  A c-section is very painful though.  Just reaching for my cup of water just about "did me in".  I never knew all the muscles that were connected to my abdomen I guess.
  • That's just codeine isn't it? Nah, that's not the good stuff. You can get codeine otc in Canada, the UK and Australia :-) Up to about 10mg.

I could however go for an Rx of pethidine (what you call demerol). I've only had it 3x in my life but boy was it fun. I could even overcome my fear of needles for that!

Just as well I don't have prescription rights...I'd be a peth addict in no time :-) Wooooooo!

ETA - sorry , my mistake - its what I call oxycontin. Yeah its strong stuff but I don't think its as fun as pethidine, that may be just that you get peth in the body faster as its injected...my gran is on regular oxycontin and she just sleeps when she takes it, but I had it once and found it a great painkiller but not fun. For recreation I definitely choose pethidine/demerol!

  • i guess it's a good thing- but i get NO happy high off of any opioids like Vicodin, percocet, codine, etc.... I have had to take them for migraines during pg... plus was on morphine and dilauded with my last pg for kidney stones- and they did nothing for me but dull pain and make me tired.

my DH, who is a recovering alcoholic (sober over 6 years) finds it amazing that i can take these and not feel anything.... he won't go near them in fear that it will start an addiction for him... even when he has had painful dental work done.
