I just did this with DS last week. I had eye problems as a kid so our pedi referred him to a pedi opthalmologist to get checked out. It wasn't as bad as I thought. He did great. The hardest part was getting him to sit still to put the dilating drops in his eyes. They had lots of toys in the waiting room so and the doc had lots of toys and props in the exam room to assist with the exam.
And, his eyes are perfect. No detectable problems at this point. Yay! And they don't want to see him again until he is 5 unless something comes up.
Good luck!

DS had to go to an opthamologist regularly and they always said it would be 2 hours, but it was never that long. It mostly depends how long it takes the eyes to dilate.
