birth announcements?

I'm just curious how soon we should try to get them done and in the mail... he's only 2 weeks old, but this is a formal "announcement", so I feel like it should be done pretty quick.

Our hospital took the pics and then I ordered the announcements from the company that did the pics 5 days after his birth. The announcements were in the mail 10 days after birth.

we had her pictures done at 3 weeks, had the annoucements by 4 weeks and i had them sent out that weeek.

He was about 3-4 weeks old.  I had the envelops addressed prior to having him so I just needed to get the CD from the photographer from the hospital and upload the photo to Tinyprints.com
