What's a good "goodbye" gift?

One of my son's friends is leaving our daycare center on Friday and I'd like to get a little "goodbye" gift from my son for the kid. He is 2.5 years old. Any good ideas for what I could get?

I wouldn't do a goodbye gift, but maybe send home a card and tell his mom you would love to schedule a play date sometime and leave your contact info.

When I was a kid I got several hardcover books as goodbye gifts. They always wrote in the front cover. I still have them! I don't remember who "Joshua" is, but in 1983 he said he'd miss me!
