Help my baby is having a shiit fit-- cereal??

Can rice cereal make them constipated or do something else weird to them if you give it before "solids age"??  We had to start putting cereal and formula powder in C's BM bottles (per the pedi, no flaming) and she is FREAKING out, I haven't ever heard these weird cries and nothing soothes her, she is acting like she is in terrible pain, I feel like it's maybe related to the cereal or starting formula since that's the only new thing???  Help!

Yes it can constipate them, we are using rice cereal to thicken the formula, he's still adjusting.

just curious...why did the pedi tell you to do that? she doesn't look small for her age.

She isn't even on the growth curve anymore.  Her reflux is so bad that she can't keep my BM down.  Technically it wasn't her pedi, but her GI specialist and nutritionist who told us to do it.

She is calm now though, I don't know what the heck her deal was, I'm so freaked out by everything that's going on with her that I panicked for a moment!  Sorry.

It is probably because she couldn't be weened and had to stop BM cold-turkey.  My Pedi suggested a 1/2 tsp mylanta in a bottle 3 times a day and the boys became sooo regular.  I don't know if you'd want to discuss anything like that with your pedi.  I'm sorry she's having such a rough go of it.

thanks i wil ask, she actually gets 1/2 BM and 1/2 formula but it does seem to be kind of rough on her little tummy!!  ugh.
