Bassinet

I went back and forth on the idea of getting a bassinet. I registered for a pack n play that has one built in which I plan on using for our living room when the baby is napping during the day. I decided to get one for our bedroom...

What was your choice?

Re: Bassinet

  • We're going to have the PnP in our bedroom for the first few weeks, but I am wondering if I'm going to wish we'd gotten a bassinet or a co sleeper or something so we could have the PnP on the main floor...

  • That looks cute! I haven't picked one yet but plan to. We used the PNP with DS and hated it- mostly because HE hated it. It wasn't comfortable for him and it was so big. I look forward to using the bassinet this time. They don't stay small long but it's one of those cute things I actually wish I'd used the first time around.

  • Have you all looked at the PnP with the "newborn nappers"?

We're using one downstairs, and borrowing a more traditional bassinet from my sister for upstairs.

  • We are planning on having the baby sleep in his crib from day 1.  That way we don't have any problems when we transition him to a crib.  We have a pnp that is set up downstairs for naps during the day.  That being said.  We also were given the bassinet that DH used as a baby and have that set up in our room just-in-case.

  • I'm not getting a bassinet. We are using the PNP w/ bassinet in our room and she wil take naps in her crib ASAP. I think we have to much going on during the day downstairs. Our dogs are always in and out, FI's workers coming and going. I got a video monitor and I plan on setting it up only in her room. But if this changes and we need a bassinet then we will get one.

    Ditto this exactly.

  • We lucked out and are getting a hand me down bassinet, since the baby only sleeps in it for a short while, I'm sooo happy we don't have to buy one. ?During the day we'll try to put the baby down in his crib for naps, or just roll the bassinet out into the living room.?
  • SInce I plan to BF we decided to get a bassinet....

  • We're getting a hand-me-down moses basket, so we'll be using that at first, and possibly getting a rocking stand for it.  I like that I'll be able to move it around the apartment wherever I am or get her away from her big sister if she's being noisy.  With DD I planned on having her in her crib from day 1 and that didn't work out.  She cried any time we put her in it and I think it just felt too big for her.  She had reflux issues, so at the advice of my Dr she slept in her carseat for a few months, which worked out really well (once we did that she went from waking every 1..5-2 hours to sleeping 6 hours straight...  and sleeping 12 hours through within a few weeks!).

  • I bought that bassinet today! We got it for the first few months so the baby can sleep next to the bed and then we'll transition to the crib. The PNP is staying downstairs.

We don't have the room for a bassinet in our bedroom so we really dont have a choice of having her sleep in her crib, but that was one piece of advice that I was given from my SIL who has a 7 month old...start in the crib.  They are having such a hard time getting their LO to sleep in his crib.
