Parenting after a Loss

ugh, she is really struggling :(

DD has a cold and I feel so bad for her. Runny nose, cough, etc. She is so tired and can't fall asleep. This is not like her at all. She NEVER has a problem falling asleep, usually just staying asleep. I gave her tylenol, rocked her, fed her. I don't know how else to help her. She really needs to sleep! Should I be giving her some other kind of cold medicine?

Re: ugh, she is really struggling :(

  • have you tried sitting with her in the steam from a hot shower?

  • Poor Avery! I agree with May try sitting with her in a steamy bathroom.  Also suction as much of the boogers as you can.  I hope she feels better soon.
  • use a humidifier and suction out her nose. elevate her crib; it helps w/drainage
  • When they're sick, you can't "make" them sleep.  You also can't give cold medicine to babies.

Humidifier, saline drops, suctioning out her nose, taking her in the bathroom to get some steam is about all you can do,

  • I'm so sorry:(  She's had a cold before, hasn't she?  So you probably know what's in store.  Big hugs to all 3 of you!
  • Thanks ladies. She finally fell asleep. DH is going to take her in the shower with him after she wakes up.

Surprise Wow!  Well in that case, just settle in for a few days of cuddling, snuggling and sucking out goobers.  And when the snotties start to dry and make her nose gunky, I swear to you, bobby pins are the best booger pickers.

  • Seconding the humidifer and saline drops...We also loved this stuff... https://www.johnsonsbaby.com/product.do?id=7  ...when our baby had a cold.

Now I feel like such an idiot -- I haven't even been sucking out her boogers and she's had this runny nose since Thursday. I've just been catching them with a tissue when they ooze out. I feel like such a rookie!

Nahh, don't.  I usually avoid the bulb syringe until I feel completely guilty.  I hate doing it and Lilly hates having it done.  But it really does help:(

  • I am sorry. I don't think you can really give her cold meds. Try baby vicks on the bottom of her feet and then putting socks on her. It really helped Aiden.

  • FWIW ~ check with your pedi before using baby vicks. ?our pedi DOES NOT reccomend it. ?they say it is a temporary fix but then the mucous comes back even thicker and gives them a "rebound cold". ?we use 2 saline drops in each nose to moisten things up and then suck it all out with the boogie sucker. ?he HATES it and screams his little head off, but it works.

    ?

also, sit on the bathroom floor while the steaming hot water is running in the shower. ?take some toys and a box of kleenex with you b/c once her nose starts breaking apart the gunk it will run like a faucet! ?oh, and dress in shorts and a t-shirt yourself. ?we did this in Jan when E had RSV and i was in sweats....i think i lost 3 pounds in that bathroom!! ?LOL

hang in there. ?hope she feels better soon.?
